Circumstraint picture: Possible Intactivist aide?

Here's an extremely large size picture of a Circumstraint, the angel-shaped plastic board used to immobilize infants... used in male infant circumcisions.

I was wondering if we could use this picture for education purposes to further our cause of ending MGM (male genital mutilation). Note at the lower left is a cabinet drawer/door with the word "Gomco" on it!

Not to sound offensive in any way, but I would imagine this would probably work more on women than guys. It falls into the category of one of those things that might make a guy feel defensive about their parents' decision. Either way, it's terrifying imagery, isn't it? Eurch.
One of the companies that manufactures/sells circumstraints, Olympic Medical, describes their newborn immobolizer (circumstraint) this way:

Quote:
In less than 30 seconds, a nurse can immobilize the struggling infant securely in the correct position with Circumstraint. It works on a proven principle of positive 4-point restraint. Soft wide Velcro straps encircle the infant's elbows and knees, depriving him/her of leverage. The child is held safely and securely without danger of escape. Circumstraint's comfortable contoured shape positions the infant, hips elevated, perfectly presenting the genitalia. The platform between the infant's legs provides support for a circumcision clamp. Without pins, towels, plastic shells or the threat of strangulation, Circumstraint snugly and securely immobilizes the infant with their entire torso visible."

...A far more disgusting description then any intactivist could come up with.

:puke

PS. Yes, I think the picture could be very useful. Is it copyrighted? Also, did anyone else notice the "Gomco Clamp" label on the drawer beneath the circumstraint?

without danger of escape??? Are you freaking kidding me?

I wonder how many people actually know that their baby is strapped down so that they won't try to escape... poor babies..why wouldn't they want to escape? Sheesh, the way they describe this contraption, it's like they are trying to sell a new car or something...

I think seeing the circumstraint would actually encourage people to understand exactly what happens during a circ., but also to know HOW it happens too.
that pic does make me feel ill... and the company's description... puke.

Poor babies.

Someone on this site mentioned in an earlier thread that they were looking for a circumstraint to place on their coffee table as a candy dish to start conversations about RIC. Not something I'd have the guts to do (plus having an instument of torture on the coffee table would depress me way too much) but I applaud anyone who would ahve the guts to do that. Just looking at a circumstraint makes me sad.

Here is a case of a circ'd male taking action...I really love this story.

Honestly, if it weren't for the horrid things that it's for and not wanting to support that company, I'd own one. Well, not anymore, but it would have been useful in the early months. But having to have someone hold him down so I could get his medicine on him, well, having him strapped securely would have been a lot easier. Now, well, he'd be too big for it anyway. And I have to pin him down AND have Jean hold him in order to get him covered.
why in the world would they take a pic of that and then not even have the guts to call it what it is?

instead of "for you know what" for cutting off multiple nerve endings needlessly (or something else equally factual)
How in the world do they sanitize that thing...I mean it must come in contact with a lot of body fluids. Maybe I have finally figured out why US hospitals vac newborns for Hep B

I know at the hospital where I worked, we wiped them down with a sanitizing spray. They didn't have a lot of contact with bodily fluids, believe it or not, because the circumcision methods used in hospitals usually cause hemostasis before they cut the foreskin off. But all of the circumstraints were stained in the genital area from betadine, which is used to clean the baby's penis before the surgery.

It was me and I'm STILL willing to! I'll search EBay for a far cheaper price since I *WON'T* buy it from the company directly (at full price) and support them. I think it'd be COOL to fill it with jelly beans and take a picture and SEND it them!

I'd love to have a circumstraint, for educational purposes...as well as a gomco, mogen, and plastibell. I'm a Childbirth Educator and will increasingly have contact with more and more expectant families and I am also hoping to teach a "Circumcision Decision" class for free at some point. If anyone knows a way to get these items free or cheap, let me know.

As a gal who had surgey from infancy to adulthood i would say that won't work for a aide.

#1 They could say they use it for more than one thing especially for infants even though it states just for circ

#2 Straps are for to make sure not falling out, rolling over , stopping startle reflexes

#3 It is only used during infancy

I do remember being strapped on my way to surgery was when I was a child but older to me the bed had staps like ambulance straps around my front and around the bottom - It was freaky, uncomfy but I would say it was wheb I was not even a preteen yet but passed infancy.

I could not move a muscle

Why not stop at hopitals in your area and ask? They may not have an extra circumstraint on hand but I bet if you tell them you are a child birth educator and discuss circ as part of your classes they might be able to help you out with some of the stuff (I'd be careful to present a neutral front).

If you can't get an actual circumstraint I would suggest that using a picture with a baby actually strapped in might be even more effective. And blow that sucker up to a good size so there is no ignoring it.

Oh that would be funny! I wonder how they would take that? Maybe you could just "retire" one like in the link I posted. That would be the best way to get one...if it weren't so darn illegal
!

That person deleted the picture.
Guess he didn't like getting told what 'you know what' is

I'd already saved the largest version, if anyone wants/needs it, email me.

i recall seeing some c/s photos in that same album- maybe they figued, "hey a little cut for mom, a little cut for baby, it'll be a bonding thing"

/sarcasm
I'd be willing to do a photoshop of a grown man, naked and panic-faced, strapped into one of these torture devices, with a doctor bringing a scalpal towards his genitals. If that doesn't turn the stomaches of fathers looking to circ their baby boys, I don't know WHAT will.

Nikki, that is the coolest idea I've heard in a while. Wouldn't that make a great PSA poster?
If you do it, please link to it. Some casual friends of mine are having a boy and are still on the fence about circumcision. Your image just might do the trick.
