Anyone have ideas about how best to make a clay handprint for my 2 year- old? I'd like to make one for us and one each for the grandparents for the holidays. I know there are kits out there, but I was wondering if maybe there is a less expensive way... Ideas? Hints? Suggestions?

I haven't done the clay handprint except for using the kits. However last year we made handprint Christmas ornaments out of felt. It turned out really cute, just tracing their hand, it was doubled to make it sturdier and did a cute stitch with yarn around the outside. Then we stitched their name and the year on the hand. They were really sweet and inexpensive. Grandma's love that kind of thing!
I could show you a pic of what they look like if you want. When I get out the ornaments and stuff.

Good luck!

Thanks, guys!

I actually opted for Sculpey- it was about $9 for a box and I got 4 prints out of it.

It was nice and neat and easy to do. I put a pretty green ribbon on it and Viola! Grandparent presents! Worked great.
