Cleaning the Litter Box

We got a special closing garbage can for it, so that we can scoop it into the can, and only toss it when the bag is full. Not ideal, but it's the best we could come up with.

When we had a cat we used Feline Pine and then just flushed it as we cleaned it out. Or just threw it in the trash. It had no stink and is biodegradable.

I just switched my mom to it recently. I couldn't stand the smell of her cat box when we visited so DH and I went and bought her a giant bag of it and changed out her litter.

I use the plastic grocery store bags. I don't know why I have so many because I bring my own bags to the grocery store, but somehow I still have tons of those plastic ones.

I've been low on those plastic bags in the past and have grabbed old shopping bags from my neighbors trash as well. I know it's still dealing with plastic, but at least I am reusing them before they get trashed. Especailly the ones that I pull from the neighbors trash, they would have never seen the recycling bin at the grocery store, so at least I gave it one more use before they end up in the landfill.

I always use the extra plastic grocery bags I have or the bags that the flyers come in each week.

I used to use Feline Pine and we all loved it,but it's hard to find now for me. I've been using some other natural stuff that I can get delivered.

A cheap alternative to feline pine is pellet stove pellets. I can get a 40lb bag for about $6 in this area. Horse stall pellets will work as well. The pellet isn't as fine as the feline pine, but our cats don't mind it. I love that it stops the litter-tracking issue we had before.
