My 7 week old baby boy's shoulders click a lot. Does anyone know anything about this? I noticed it around 3 weeks.

I'm not sure about just the shoulders, but my son's whole body seems to click and crack and pop all the time. His doctor said it was normal, and it seems to be for him. It's been happening since he was around your child's age(he's 7 months now). If you are worried definately check with his doctor the next time you see him/her.

Mine also does this. My pediatric chiropractor says this is not normal. He sees my daughter once a month, and "puts" her joints back together.... by stimulating a proper placement. He had me get a physical therapy apt from my pediatrician. We do strengthening excercises, daily.

Also,

BE very areful how you pick your baby up. Hold onto her trunk. Not her arms or right under her arms where you could push up on her shoulder blades (right in armpit). When changing diapers don't pull baby legs.

PS.... I am also a ped RN

Thank you so much for your replies. I did take him to a chiropractor who adjusted his upper back and said to gently massage him daily (he had tightness.) He seemed to crack less after that. What kind of strengthening exercises do you do, and do you know where I could find more information? We go to the pediatrician in a few weeks, and I want to be informed.

So no popping and clicking is normal at all? My son's doctor is trained in cranial sacral and is an osteopath and that is why I trusted his judgement on it. Maybe I should check more into it? Does it depend on anything?

Seeing as he's 7 months now, I'm afraid I have missed something.

Thanks!!
