I've always wondered if anyone else has noticed that clitoral stimulation helps ease labor pain and even menstrual cramps?? If not, give it a try and let me know. It really works! Hopefully this will work for others. Or else I must have my wires crossed. Although I'm not complaining! It really helped during my first birth, although I didn't have the privacy I needed to really be able to do it.

I think it would help release Oxytocin in the same way as nipple stimulation would, just more *intensely* basicly Oxytocin release enables the uterus to contract more effectively (remember Pitocin = Fake Oxytocin) And since Oxytocin is a NATURAL thing in our bodies, our bodies can process it better therefore you get some of those extra relaxing endorphins to go with it as well.

The fight-flight response, and drugs can stop all those important hormones including oxytocin from flowing. Which causee the need for artificial hormones(drugs) which causes more harm than good. So good idea to do that if labor slows down, but I would much rather do it at home than in a hospital.

I'd read about it before but didn't have the privacy I needed even with a homebirth.

One more reason for the next to be

ETA: I teach childbirth education. Things can be quite graphic in discussions, but I think I'd be a little too
to mention *that* in my list of non-pharaceutical pain relief options!

It definately made it feel better, I was in so much pain.
I should add that during the labour of my second DD, clitoris stimulation was not useful or needed. All births are different.

A birth story that has this in it, the first time I heard of it.
- not a uc.-
It is not a UC, overly "attended" for me, but it was beautiful!

Thanks for sharing the link.

Typical midwife-attended birth, with lots of intervention and fears and a slow and non-instinctive second stage. It's wonderful that the mom got her VBAC, of course.

Re: the sexuality of birth, simply putting pressure on the clitoris, stimulating the nipples, etc., aren't going to release oxytocin. For most people having an audience means that whatever is done to make the birth "sexual" is perfunctory and contrived and therefore pointless and useless. Maybe worse than useless.

Of course you need the privacy to be really realaxed enough to do it comfortably, but I belive you need that level of privacy to give birth too, so...

I've found clitoral stimulation helps a lot with menstrual pain, and since it was sex that got the baby in there, then I'm sure sex will help get the baby out too!

Actually, when a woman has orgasm, the uterus contracts (pleasurably). and I've seen women feeling ecstasy from contractions, so why not?!

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind.

The friend who will be at our birth is, I'm sure, open to this sort of thing. I don't think I would feel comfortable doing it in front of her, though, (or anyone really) but I'm sure she would give me privacy if I asked for it.

I'm just picturing the look on your MW's face when she saw that!
