I've read that CLO is good for babies. The vit. D is supposed to be good for preventing autoimmune diseases. I've been taking it since before pregnancy. I don't plan on giving it to him yet, but I'm wondering when is an appropriate time to start giving it to a baby. And also how much?

See Vitamin D for Infants article:
http://www.westonaprice.org/children...-d-safety.html

You will transfer "enough" D to your babe while bf'ing according to current studies if you have 6,000IU/day in your diet.

http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20050430/food.asp

As soon as the babe is eating solids I would be giving the CLO. I did start with two of mine earlier than that because they had extenuating circumstances and needed it earlier. Dd started around one month, ds2 started about 9 months (before solids in his case) I take plenty myself. They all get what is recommended on the bottle starting at a year, I cut the dose in half before that. This of course also depends on the brand you are using. We are using Radiant Life. My 4 & 3 year old both take around a tsp. My 10 month old takes about 1/2 a tsp.

Thank you for the links. That's exactly what I was looking for.

And thank you firefaery. Waiting until he's eating solids makes perfect sense. Don't want to change his gut flora before it's necessary.

I guess for the time being I'll need to increase my intake, and order some high vitamin CLO to make that easier. And summer's almost here, so I'll make sure to get him out in the sun (gasp! ). We certainly don't need any more autoimmune diseases in this family!

Thanks again, mamas!

If I start supplementing my one year old with high vit. CLO should I start reducing my own dose (she is still very much a nursey girl ). I'm wondering if it's better to hold off with it for her until she weans, or starts nursing less...
