I think I have clogged ducts in both breast. It started with severe pain and followed by a fever. The next day I noticed one of my breast was really red in the area of the hardness. When baby sucks it feels like little needles are being pulled through. So everyone is telling me it's clogged ducts and I'm massaging, hot compressing and breast feeding. I'm also taking things to help fight infections and arnica for the pain. If I do have clogged ducts how long does it usually take for them to unclog? Is there any way to prevent them in the future?

thatdoes not sound like a clogged duct hun it sounds like mastitis. you need to go see a doctor or your midwife.

I agree with PP....blocked ducts happened to me occasionally, but they were never like this...you could almost even feel it get released.

Not sure what you're taking for the infection, but I'd recommend getting it checked out before nursing gets anymore painful. The best way I prevented recurrence of blocked ducts was to change positions now & then to be sure everything that needed to was getting activated & making sure she was really finished before stopping.

Best wishes to you! Hope you feel better soon..

Thank you!

the left side is all better, but the right side still hurts. I'll be seeing my midwife this week. The pediatrician said it was caused by bacteria in my little ones mouth I don't like the sound of that.
