I have just experienced my 7th 1st trimester miscarriage in the past 42 months (I also had one successful pregnancy, resulting in my 16 month old daughter). I am 41 years old, and we very much would like to have one more baby.

I have had extensive work-ups to figure out why I keep miscarrying. I do have a fairly common genetic thrombophilia issue, which is treated with baby aspirin and high doses of folic acid. However, there is no way to know for sure whether this is the actual cause of the problem.

My perinatologist suggested yesterday that now we might try Clomid, to improve egg quality, and to address possible luteal phase issues - even though I have not had any problem GETTING pregnant, only in staying pregnant.

Has anyone heard of the use of clomid to deal with recurrent pregnancy loss? I would welcome any info anyone has.

Thanks.

I'm so sorry for your losses

I have not heard anything about using Clomid to treat repeated losses. I don't know that it improves egg quality, but rather egg maturity. Just because an egg is mature doesn't mean it's a good quality. I remember reading somewhere that Clomid can actually cause sub-par eggs to mature and fertilize leading to increased risk of m/c because the eggs were sub-par to begin with. I haven't researched this so I don't know more details or how accurate that information is.

Have you read the book "Is your body baby friendly?". I would strongly suggest that book and ruling out immune issues. Also, have they ruled out a uterine septum? They can be a cause of first trimester loss as well. An HSG should be able to rule this out.

Good luck to you.
