Sorry I do not have a link as I';m super brain fried today. Anyway while doing some web searches I ran across info that a study was done comparing clomid taken cd1-5 to cd 5-9. I think this was a small study but they had 25 % of the 1-5 group get pg and none of the 5-9 days people did. Again, small study, but since I'd never seen anyone discuss taking it cd1-5 thought I'd mention it.

Has anyone here taken it cd1-5?

I'm doing it cd2-6 because last time I did it 5-9 and no pg. I was going to do 3-7 but wanted an extra day because dh is going out of town and hoping I can cover O.

BTW, when I have taken it before I O'd 8 days after the last pill.

so opinions?

Interesting study idea. As long as I've been involved in infertility groups, it seems common knowledge that clomid makes you O later than day 14. So, I've actually heard of many doctors that tell patients to take it days 3-7 instead of 5-9. I'm not sure I've heard anyone say to take it 1-5, but that is interesting. Especially considering that when I've taken it before, the doctor always said "take the clomid days 5-9, then expect to O on day 14, so have intercourse every other day starting day 10 or 11 until about day 18." With this advice, if the clomid really does make you O later than the "standard" (using that word very loosely
: ) then the type of advice I got would be pretty ineffective... Then again, if people are using charting and OPK's to determine when O happens, instead of the day number, it almost seems it wouldn't matter what days you take the clomid, within reason? I dunno... I'm sort of thinking out loud.

I got pg taking it days 5-9. It made me ovulate on cd 16 and 17 (I took it for two months).

Interesting study. Most people I know who used clomid took it cd 5-9, and got pg.

I took my 1st round of Clomid (50mg) 2 months ago on CD5-9 and I ovulated on CD19 (of a 32-day cycle). Last month I went naturally and ovulated on CD15. This month I am taking my 2nd round of Clomid (50mg) on CD1-5 (I read the same study about it increasing odds of conception) and so far I'm on CD11 and it appears I ovulated. Let's hope this month is THE month!

Thanks for posting about this. I'm interested in the study--does it have something to do with minimizing side effects due to low estrogen--like lack of cf? I think I read that the earlier you take it the less it affects your cervical fluid...

I'm on my first cycle of Clomid. I did days 3-7, but I took it at night so it is close to 4-8. I think if I go again, I might try nights 2-6. I also might go right to IUI to cut out the cf problems. Anyway, I don't have a confirmed O yet and am really curious as to when it will happen (or maybe it is happening right now?).

I did it both ways, and achieved successful pregnancies with both. My first pregnancy (he is now 13) the conventional wisdom was take it days 5-9, which I did. I ovulated day 14--which was perfect for me, as my problem was luteal phase defect and I usually had very early ovulations at day 11 or so (if at all, and I think they were ineffective ovulations at that).

By my next pregnancy (3 years later--she is now 10) they were telling me to take it days 1-5. I balked at that, as 5-9 had worked before, but the doctor said that they were showing more success with clomid taking it earlier in the cycle. As far as I know, there have been several studies showing that taking it earlier is a bit more effective.

I was treated at California Pacific Hospital in San Francisco for my infertility.

My doc had me taking it 3-7. The follicles were the right size for triggering on day 14 both cycles of Clomid we did (I won't release the follicles on my own). We conceived on the 2nd cycle.

That's interesting.
When I was on Clomid I did it 5-9 and Oed CD21, then I did 3-7 and Oed earlier, I think CD17, but it was a while ago, I can't remember.

The earlier in the cycle you take it, the more follies you produce, hence the better success rates. More eggs, better chance....

1st round CD 1-5 at 100mg, O day 18, pregnancy, m/c.

2nd round CD 3-7 at 100mg, O day 20, nothing.

3rd round CD 2-6 at 100mg, O day 17, nothing.

4th round CD 2-6 at 100mg, O day 18, nothing.

5th round CD 2-6 at 100mg, gonal-f injections days 7, 9, & 12 (double dose) with trigger day 14, O on day 15, and nothing.

This cycle was without meds, and with out charting. Good luck to you.

This is interesting. This will be my first month on Clomid. 50mg days 3-7. I have to take Provera to get AF started as I haven't had one in 3 months. I'm waiting on bloodwork to see what my exact issue is, but PCOS and thyroid was mentioned. I've never had normal cycles...
