I think that I am finally going to have insurance and would like to chose a primary care physician. I am interested in recommendations for a ND, or maybe a naturally minded MD. It is possible that I would be looking for pregnancy support as well as general care, and I'd like someone who has an awareness of nutritional balance, and has an emphasis on establishing/supporting healthy bodies by checking nutrient levels, vit. D, that sort of thing.

Thanks!

Jen Gibbons is my midwife and our family practice doc, we LOVE her. She is at the Natural Childbirth & Family Clinic in NE pdx. She is amazing, I trust her completely and she takes great care of all of us, whatever we throw at her she can handle. Good luck!

Thanks for the Jen Gibbons recommendation, her name seems to come up quite a lot and I'm thinking that she must be worth checking out. I would really like a primary care person (and insurance, if they ever approve me ) before we decide on another baby. My midwives were awesome, but next time I'd like to have access to a regular, preferably ND, physician as well.

kimkim,we take DS to Shahram (Shay) Hosseinion at the Hawthorne Wellness Center (Hawthorne and 39th). He's an M.D., family practice, not ped, and I've been really happy with him--actually got the suggestion from a list of providers other clients of my midwives have had good experiences with. DS hasn't had any health problems, but we've been in to see Dr. Shay periodically to establish a relationship/baseline and he's really nice to work with. I'm looking for an ND for me because it's just my preference at this point. Maybe he's another name you could add to your list?

thanks annalivia.
unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover jen or shay. my husband has gone to shay and said he liked him a lot. too bad it costs so much more for me to be on his health plan. and a heads up to everyone that josh reagan is NOT accepting new patients (even though my insurance company told me his is) neither is dr. graves. i like the philosophy of their group practice that that they all are family practice doctors so we can all go to the same doctor. so i've decided to see their new family practice female dr, elisa wilson. has anyone seen her or have any opinons?

We go to Primary Integrative Care Physicians. It's close-in NW. My dh and I see Max, and dd sees Kristen. They're technically nurse practitioners, but we really like them.

I've heard good things about Alexandra Demetro, a midwife and ND.

We've been seeing Pilar Beurk MD at NW Pediatric Associates for a few months now and I think we can stay with her! Mind you this is after trying out a number of other pediatricians who were supposedly fairly open-minded. Dr Beurk is warm and respectful and appears to be unfazed by the issue of vaccinations. We like her a lot - she does't appear to be radical or anything, merely respectful of a parent's opinion. We also had good luck with Vasantha Gopal MD at the same place. The only thing is these docs only work a few days a week. Luckily my kids aren't sick very often. I think we will try out Dr Demetro for an ND next.
