I've never done one with prefolds, but I did make one with cloth wipes for a friend. I folded the wipes in half, rolled them lengthwise, and then tied each individually before placing on a cake circle and tying together with ribbon. Only the first layer sat on the cake circle, the others were just stacked on top. It did have a tendency to tip over. Straight pins would probably have been the best solution to connect the layers, or even cute diaper pins would've worked, but I had niether available.

I think I have pics... let me look... Here it is Now I remember that I *thought* I had small cake circles, but didn't - so I disguised it a bit in the basket that also contained fitteds and AIOs. Oh, and the top one is two wipes slightly overlapped, folded over, and then rolled altogether lengthwise. That gives the top layer the right size in just one piece.

HTH! Post pics when you do it!

And Darling Diapers does something along that line. I think maybe they sell diaper/wipe-cakes? It's been a while since I have needed wipes, so I haven't been to that site in a while. Anyways, that was the first time I had ever heard of a diaper/wipe cake - pretty cool!

I am going to be making one soon, so I mapped it out on paper last night. I'm probably going to do 4x6x4 infant prefolds (washed and ready to use). I measured a rolled one last night and decided I would need 24 for a two tier cake.

Here's what you do: Fold a prefold in thirds, roll it tight, and tie it with a ribbon. Do that to all of them. Place them standing up on a 10 inch cake board. One should be in the middle. There should be six in a circle around that and 10 more around those. The top tier would just be the middle pf and the circle of 6. Everything should be tied with ribbon. Once you have it all together, you can tie on extras (baby bath stuff, snappis, pins, ect).

I was also thinking of doing prefolds for the bottom tier and wipes for the top tier.

Have fun with it!

My mom used to make them for presents when I was little. She rolled up each diaper (I think she used flats) and tied each one with a ribbon. She put a bottle in the center, the cap of the bottle was above the dipes. She tied a ribbon around all the dipes around the bottle, then adeed a second layer and tied that too. She decorated it with lace etc, attached with diaper pins and put it on a cardboard cake circle.
