Cloth diapers in day care.......???

863 Views 14 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  wawoof
I will be taking a newborn in May. Her Mom would like me to use cloth diapers. She will be taking the diapers home at night to wash.

How do your provides do this? Do they put them in a bag each night? Do I need a separate diaper pail? Do I use plastic bags, or a waterproof fabric bag?

What works for you? I used cloth for my own daughter, but that was 13 years ago. Diaper pails were simple, just lift and drop...now they are all complicated.

when we were using cloth at the daycare, we provided a hard plastic bin with lid that we took home every night. All we had our providers do was drop 'em in the bin. We took care of the rest at home.
When dd was in daye care, the day care had three bins for each of the 3 kids that used cloth and put the diapers in. I didn't expect them to do anything, but they actually shook the poop off in the toilet, which made my job so much easier.
We send Fuzzibunz to ds's daycare in either a reusable PUL sack with a zipper or a recycled plastic grocery bag. DCP will dump any solids in the toilet and just stuff the dirties in the plastic bag. When I pick ds up, she just knots the bag and I take it home.
OUr dcp just puts them in a plastic bag and I take them home and put in diaper pail. The poopie one (one per day) is put in a separate bag so I can shake it out at home; I don't want her to have to do that.
I watch a little girl that uses cloth. I just put her diapers in a plastic grocery bag for her mom. She's only here 4 hours a day so I don't need a tub for her or anything.
nak....

aios only - they prefered velcro, but snaps were ok

plastic grocery sack for dirties - reusable was a prob w/ health code?
We're the only family in DS's daycare using cloth. Their policy is to bag all poopy diapers before tossing them, so they just put all our dipes in a plastic bag instead of tossing them. Sometimes we leave a wet bag there, but they still bag the poopy ones because of the smell factor. We use AIOs a lot, but they're cool with prefolds too, since we have snap covers and they don't need to pin.
I send enough diapers for the day plus extra each day in DD's diaper bag, and DD's caregiver puts soiled ones in a wetbag I send or a plastic grocery bag or some combination. I dump poo when we get home. When we first started I gave her a diagram for how to snappi on a prefold. Later I added some AIO's to my stash and send those. I dump poo and throw the dipes in my pail when I get home, just as I do when we've been out places together ( though I dump poo if it's solid in public toilets).

Technically you're supposed to dump poo from sposies into the toilet too, so it can be properly treated and not tossed in the landfill.
Thanks everyone.

I will ask her to bring a reusable bag. I don't know where I would hang a plastic grocery bag.
our daycare uses tiddee didee diaper service. we just send wraps daily. and i send a cloth go-home diaper of my own. if i don't have a go-home dipe or he poops on a wrap they just wrap them in plastic bags for transport home.
my dd's babysitter uses cloth for us. we just bought a cheap flip top diaper pail and put a plastic bag in and bring it home. i'm a cheapy cloth user. i use the gerber prefolds with gerber plastic pants. i bought a few sets of snappis and she uses those. i just leave a bunch of plastic pants there for blowouts, and a pack of "just in case" sposies (in case she runs out, and initially in case she couldn't get the diaper on). she's a pro now. i actually just quit my job and took a position at a day care b/c we couldn't afford child care. i'm just going to plastic bag her diapers. seems as easy as anything!

That's exactly what we have done. Works really well for us.

When we first started, I just brought a roll of small garbage bags for them to put the dirty diapers in. Now I have a wetbag that I stick in with the clean diapers each day.
I send CDs to daycare for my 3.5mo DS. I send a day's worth of velcro pocket diapers and clean PUL wetbag each day.
