Ok here's the deal. I am going on vacation in July to Orlando and Puerto Rico. I have used CDs on weekend trips on the road with no problems, but this is on a whole other level.

The place in Orlando is an apartment style time share and we will be there for a week. I can prob do wash there. The place in PR is a resort and we will be there for 3 days. I can prob do a wash at a relatives hhouse though.

I currently use a service with covers and prefolds, but have recently begun to use BM pockets on my own and will have about 5 by that time.

What do I bring?? How much?? Do I take the service prefolds or buy more pockets and rotate? Am I crazy?? I really don't want to use sposies, but I am going to need a seperate suitcase to carry all my sh#$! Literally

Hope I don't get searched!

Any Advice??

I wish I had some advice! I have been cloth diapering for almost 3 months now, and we have gone on holiday twice. Both times we were unable to access a washer/dryer, so I opted for disposables.

Now, in two weeks we will be traveling to the states (we live in the UK) and we are going to cloth diaper while we are there because we will be with family. I am planning on packing my cloth diapers in a suitcase, and using disposables for the 7 hour flight (we will then be driving 3 hours after we land...it will just be easier for me since I will be without DH). My stash is mostly pockets, so that is what I am bringing.

Anyway, wish I had some advice. Good luck (and have a great vacation!)

I am leaving tomorrow for a week long vacation. I will be packing my prefolds and covers just like we use at home. I have yet to put a sposie on dd and have not plans to. I traveled with cd when my boys were in diapers, too. As long as you have access to a washer/dryer than it shouldn't be a worry. I also have to have a big bag just for the diaper stuff.

Thanks for the input, new mama
You are brave! CDing in another country! Wow! I am impressed.

Like I mentioned, we have gone on the road with the diapers for 5 days. Dh was with me to assist though. I used wet bags to hold the dirty service diapers and only had to wash my covers. So it wasn't so bad. As this is over a week I am just doubting whether I should bother. Maybe I'll just try and if it does't work, I'll buy some sposies there.

Have a good trip here in the states!

bc1995-again impressive....maybe I CAN do this!

Should I bring the service diapers, which I won't wash. (This may be yucky.) or just use my pockets. I am open to buying a few more pockets and/or my own prefolds. Which system would you use on a trip like this? How many would you bring??

I would just bring the service dipes and wash them, unless you can wash everyday(which wouldn't be fun while on a vacation), you would need quite a few more pockets/prefolds.

I have taken many trips and camped with cloth, it is not very hard. As long as you have access to a washer/dryer it is easy, just like being at home really...

When I camped I hand washed my dipes so I could reuse. LOL

Ok, this might not be very popular but what I've done with no ill effects is just rinse out and air dry pockets that only have pee in between uses and wash them every 3 days or so. I have 4 pockets and lots of inserts. The inserts take up less room in a suitcase than other diapers. So you'd have to buy more inserts, but that's cheaper and takes up less space than fitteds.

My babe only poops every other day or so ... if you had a babe that pooped often this method wouldn't work.

I know they say not to do this, but it's really been fine.

We're going on vacation soon and our car will hold only so many suitcases-- we may need to do sposies. We use sposies part-time anyhow. If DS could have breastfed, we could have used the space we'll be using for bottles and formula, but oh well.

We cloth diaper our daugther and we traveled to Puerto Rico for a week and a half and stayed in a resort. I took everything we needed to be covered for the time. We use prefolds and covers (we took 4 covers and 5 prefolds per day so a total of 20 because we knew we were going to be able to do laundry) We washed twice while we were there. We also use washclothes and took about 20, these I rinsed and reused if they were use for pee. We took one suitcase just for her stuff and the airline allowed one piece for her even though we didn't buy a seat for her. We had to ask they didn't offer. A month later we went to Pittsburgh and we used disposables because it was a very short trip and we didn't want to to spend any time doing laundry and didn't feel comfortable traveling back with a suitcase full of dirty diapers. I hope this helps.

I did cloth diapers in India including when we were on the road and staying in hotels. I washed by hand in a bucket with hot water and soap, and hung them in our hotel on a line that I strung across the room. I used thin Gerber flats, and would double or triple them up in her diapers. They almost always dried overnight. I brought enough to last 2 days so if I washed daily I had another set dry and ready to use.

Have you tried G-Diapers for traveling / vacation?

I use CD's and supplement with G-Diapers. The inserts of g-Diapers are flushable (down a good toilet) or can be tossed and they will biodegrade unlike disposables.

Here's what I do.
Take 2 G-Diaper pants four liners (comes with the pants) and a pack of inserts (the bigger pack is 32 inserts). The pants rarely get wet because of the snap-on plastic liner that holds the insert. I change him as usual and toss / flush the inserts. Snap in another liner onto the same pant and wash the soiled liner. They will dry in 30 minutes or so because it's so light weight. You can dry the liner just about any where. I've even done it on a plane. Right under my seat, on napkins.

As soon as I know there's a place where I can do wash, I put my little guy back in his CD's. The other great thing about this system is that you can use the pants and liner w/fitted or prefolds. They are great covers.

HTH. Have fun and good luck.
