I know that I am not the only one here wanting to get pg, but can't yet. It has been almost 29 months since dd was born, and no AF. DD still nurses so much day and night, it's obviously too much for body to O right now. I thought this thread fit here because everytime I mention it, someone pops up and suggestions nightweaning or something like that, and I know you guys won't do that! I would just like some support, some other mamas who understand.

i don't have any advice but i just wanted to say, i'm right there with you. ...smart to post your thread here too!

our dd is 26mths and still no sign of AF here either. we are *wondering* about d#2. we would like to have another but i can't imagine adding an infant to what is currently going on in our family bed. something has got to change. having said that, i'd rather let my daughter take what she needs, than enforce weaning in the plan that another one get on board. i feel my first responsiblity is to dd1, that our family is perfect the way it is, but still, if possible we would like to have another.

i like to think this is nature's way of perfect child spacing for our family.
i'll also be watching for others' advice.

I'm in the same boat. I have my period but I hav'nt been able to conceive. My dd is 3.5 so most people suggest that I wean her. But I just can't do it. My strategy is to limit the nursing. And I'm doing that not by saying NO, NO, NO. I'm just trying to figure out what she gets from nursing and give it to her in other ways: nourishment( I try to have snacks on hand), boredom(we are getting outside and being busy) closeness(try to have lots of hugs and attention). I'm not sure this will work but I'm going to try. I can't wean her because I think she still gets a lot out of nursing.

DD is almost 3, and we want to get pregnant, too. My period is back, but we haven't gotten pg yet. DD nurses often, so I, like MangoMamma, try to figure out if she is ever nursing out of boredom/hunger/whatnot. I want her to nurse only to fall asleep and wake up (for naps, too, not just bedtime), but I am hesitant to really initiate anything. I don't want her to wean until she is ready, but some days I wish she were more ready than she appears! I just keep telling myself that she needs to be an only child right now, that we will get pregnant when we are supposed to.

Have you considered nightweaning?

: Sorry, I couldn't resist given OPs comments?

Seriously, have you considered trying to put on 5 lbs if you are a bit lower weight? I know a few people who that worked for.

Good luck!

Yep, did that, only I didn't stop at 5 lbs! I don't see any response at 5lbs so now I am 10 lbs heavier then I used to be. It is a good thing, I am usually about 105, I had lost down to 98 (I just couldn't keep weight on, dd was literally eating me alive), last time I stepped on the scale I was 108. I gained 8 lbs in 4 months, that was alot of pb and jelly! Well, there was some ice cream involved : I know that it is nature's child spacing, but now that I have baby fever it is all that I can think about. Breastfeeding is still such a need for dd, not a habit, nothing can distract her from her "nee nee". I don''t see her weaning herself any time soon, even if I did get pg and lost my supply, she would keep on nursing. At my LLL meeting today, she nursed more times and longer then all the newborns there. I'm glad to "meet" others that are in the same boat, and that understand, I must of explained to everyone of my LLL moms today why I wasn't pg with #2 yet, don't you hate those questions? Anyway, I'm sure they all think I'm nuts, thankgoodness for you guys!

are you freakin kidding me? at LLL?

jeez louise!
don't they have "BFing and Natural Childspacing" in their library?

the leaders should know that natural child spacing would encourage a 3-4 year gap between children, especially high need nursers!

I'm so : that you had that attitude given to you at LLL of all places!!!

Hey, when people ask me when/where is #2, I just say "well, I had a miscarriage last December, so...", which is the truth, but I might say it even if it wasn't just to throw the bs back in their face!

aren't I pissy tonight!

anyway, s to you

I should of explained it in a little more detail! : I'm the LLL leader, and all the moms are new (I just started this group a couple months ago), and they really don't know anything about bfing and fertility yet, all their babes are 3 months and younger. Sorry about that!

oops! my bad! this is why I shouldn't be a leader!

well, I think you are providing an excellent role model and example for all the moms with young babes! Even though they are asking the questions, they are probably rethinking all they thought they knew about breastfeeding.

I'm not sure if I can get pregnant or not, we haven't really started *trying*. I am starting to think of wanting another babe already and so is DH. We are going to start trying soon so we'll see. I will never wean for that reason though. I have started cycling though, so I'm just letting mother nature do her thing and when it happens it happens. My mom got pregnant with my sister while nursing me at 10 months, and she never even got her period back!! I agree that nature times things right, I guess some people were meant to have babes close together and some farther apart.
