My DD, 8 mo, has always slept with us and has always napped in our queen-sized bed. We installed side rails when she started rolling. Today she fell out of bed She is just fine, fortunately. I went in when I heard her crying (I thought she had just woken up because it wasn't a pain cry) and found her on the floor and the side rail had come off the bed. I'm not sure what to do now. She has never slept in a crib, and usually nurses or snuggles next to me to get to sleep.

I am glad your little one is fine, how scary!

Our solution was to put our mattress on the floor (and in the corner). I tried bed rails for a while but was too nervous that he would pull up on it and tumble over, being a worse fall then rolling off the bed.

I began to teach ds how to back off the bed around 8 months. around 11 months he 'got it'. at this point we put the box springs back. at 17 months we could probably put the frame back, but since we are expecting again i am not even going to bother.

That is very scary. My DD sleeps with us as well and is rolling regularly. We try to get her to nap in her crib, and are only successful about 25% of the time. Her preference is on our chest, but we cannot always do that. I wanted to get the side rails as well, but am afraid they aren't big enough as we have a pillowtop mattress. Our bed is very high and if my DD fell out, she would really hurt herself... You got me thinking. I usually put her in a sleep positioner and place firm pillows on both sides of the bed. However, I'm sure at 8 months she'll be climbing over them and that won't work. We'd have to get rid of our bed to put it on the floor... should talk to hubby about that. Thanks for your topic...I have some pondering to do.

NursingMama & DaisyQDuck - if you are still interested in bed rails, check out this one. It locks ON TOP of the mattress. Very secure, i don't think i could pull or push it off will all my might (even if i huffed and puffed )

We used it on our king size mattress that is about 17" thick. i would imagine it would work for your pillowtop??

just a thought.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=glance&s=baby
