I have a 6mo and we haven't really started foods ( I let her suck on an organic carrot but only to taste it and play <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> )<br><br>
My first has a dairy sensitivity and Violet has a gluten issue we think ( I'm GF just in case)....so my question is now that you know my life story <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
Can I introduce coconut milk within the first year? I would like to mix a little with Banana so she gets fat with it <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><br>
We are avoiding Avocado because of Latex ( I don't know why people start with it <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/headscratch.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="headscratch"> )

coconut has just been added to the "tree nut" list (even though technically it's not a nut.) i'd personally only mix food with breastmilk if you want her to have fat. also, bananas are a high allergen (not as high as the top 8, but still high.) it's also cross reactive with something (can't remember what but i want to say latex.)<br><br>
my dd is allergic to peanuts and soy, so for ds (also 6 months) we've started with pears because they are the least reactive food out there <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I don't worry about fat because he's nursing.

Oh good to know about banana's <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngtongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick Out Tongue"> she has tasted those so thats the list that we have played with.<br><br>
So pears is the best to start with?<br><br>
Violet has had weight gaining issues so I want to mix the food with something fatty. I can try BM but I don't want to spoon feed I want her to be able to pick up the food....

<div style="font-style:italic;">If you're avoiding avocado because of latex, avoid bananas too. They have the same issue.<br><br>

Yes, my mom is latex allergic, and both avocado and banana are on the "absolutely not" list. FYI, canteloupe gives her the same issues (hives wherever it touches), but I'm not sure if it's related to latex issues or not.
