We're in WNY and I'd like to extend the growing season a bit. I love our Wall O Waters, but don't really want to buy anymore.<br><br>
Anyone come across good plans for a cold frame on top of an existing raised bed? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/treehugger.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Treehugger">

i've seen people basically improvise this by using hay or straw bales and setting old windows on top. those are easily taken down and moved,etc and the straw keeps it pretty warm. would something like that work?

Bury sections of pvc pipe along one side of garden and bend them over to the other side making hoops over your garden. Drape plastic sheeting over and hold the plastic down with rocks or stakes along the edges.

Do you get high winds? If you do, then the old window on top of bales or a wooden box would work better than plastic sheeting. (Don't ask me how I know that!)

Why yes, we do!<br><br>
We did try out some plastic sheeting over a frame but it was too windy and it ripped badly.....of course it was flimsy plastic but we were just trying to repurpose it when we were done with it on our windows inside this winter.<br><br>
That's a great idea with the straw bales! We've been on Craigslist alot lately and there are always tons of windows!! But I know a few contractors who'd probably love to just get rid of some old replaced windows.<br><br>
