Collie freezes to sidewalk when left outside overnight, survives

Quote:
An elderly border collie mix froze to the sidewalk when it was left outside overnight in single-digit temperatures, but the "morbidly obese" dog survived due to insulation from layers of fat, according to the Sheboygan County Humane Society.

Quote:
The owner told police she tried to get the dog inside but was unable to, and instead checked on the dog every few hours, Eirich said. The temperature dipped to 6 degrees overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

I swear, every day I read something more and more unbelievable.

We are at a stage with our oldest dog that we know the end is near and it is tearing us apart knowing that tomorrow may be the day we take the step to have him euthanized.
I would do everything in my power to make sure that both dogs are inside no matter what. I have even gone out in the middle of the night to hunt the oldest down in the yard because he was taking to long to do his job and he can't hear me yell.
This makes me just sick.

Our little Chihuahua was rescused from a family that was leaving him chained outside, all night, in sub-zero weather. I just dont get it. Even our Chessie comes in when it is cold and he is built for freezing temps.

Someone else not far from where this happened, just a few weeks ago too, stole someone's German Shepherd and hung him from a park swing.
It's beyond frightening to see this kind of behavior going on around here. One article regarding that incident explained how dangerous people are who do such cruel things to animals. It said that it is how psychopathic behavior begins and later moves on to people being their targets in their twisted behaviors.

I should know better than to click on these stories . . ..

When I read stories like the one a year or so ago in which a dog rescued an abandoned baby on a trash heap in Kenya and other such incidents, I realize that animals are far better than human animals!

That poor dog! Did the owner not have an extension cord and a hair dryer?

I thought of that too, but I would be afraid that it wouldn't work and that I'd kill the dog.

It was 5F when I came home last night. Dang, is that cold.

Yeah, it's been nasty here too. I almost had to run out to grab one of our dogs yesterday morning when she went out. It was 1 above and she looked like her legs weren't working.
She barely made it up the deck steps. She's a tiny thing and weighs less than five pounds. The snow is deeper than she is tall now so she walks in the four wheeler tracks in the lawn that I made. We have to keep a very close eye on them in the winter. It's times like this that I wish they would have taken to the litter box training I tried.

Owner Of Dog Frozen To Sidewalk Could Face Neglect Charge

Quote:
The Sheboygan County District Attorney's Office said she is scheduled for a Dec. 22 court appearance, when a criminal charge of misdemeanor animal neglect could be filed.

A number for Bigler was disconnected. It wasn't immediately known whether she had a lawyer.

Police said Bigler told them she tried to coax the dog inside but was unable to, and instead checked on it every few hours.
I wonder if anyone will be checking to see if this woman has some mental disorder going on, like incompetence or something. How could you think that you could coax a dog into the house who is FROZEN to the sidewalk?
