I am about to take my 2 1/2 year old on a 1000 mile trip and wanted to make her carseat more comfortable. Any recommendations on a thrifty way to do this without spending $50+ on a cover?

Also, all of the sunshades I have bought for my windows over the years always fall off, never stay on. The suction cup ones, the cling ones..
DD hates the sun. Any recommendations on a good sunshade?

Thank you!

You can't use any aftermarket products in carseats and you can't use anything under the straps or under your DD to make it comfier. It's just not safe. The only way to add more padding is to buy a comfier cover that is specifically manufactured for the seat. Sooo...unless you buy a whole new seat or a new cover, you can't do anything about that.

The only shades that are really recommended are the cling kind because other ones can become projectiles in a crash. If you wet them just a little, they should stay better.

Can you get her a cool pair of shades?

We use a baby blanket for a sunshade when the sun is coming in on either side of the car. We open the window, hold the blanket through the opening and very carefully put the window up so that only a tiny bit is hanging on the outside (so no flapping) and the rest hangs on the inside. It's easier to do this with two people but I've done it on my own using my knee to press the button. Just watch those fingers! It works great, is definitely thrifty, not a safety issue (that I can think of anyways). But you can't see through it. Not sure if that would be an issue or not. It would work for naptime though.

I really dislike those sunshade things too. They never stay on!!

I ended up just getting my windows tinted,. It keeps the inside cooler and shades the sun for the kid's eyes.

Try getting the cling sunshades in the auto department. Don't get the ones made for baby. The other shades can tint your whole window. We put those on our escort several years ago, and they haven't peeled off yet
