I have seven year old DS and he is starting to read voluntarily on his own!!!
He likes comic book type reading and reads the Lego comic books that come in the mail (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Knoght Kingdom) pretty tame Lego style.
Does anyone have any thoughts or recomendations for comic books for this age. We don't want violence, gore or sex...obviously, but we want to encourage this new desire to read on his own. He loves adventure and action.....

Any points in the right direction would be great!

How about Calvin and Hobbes? You can get the books at your local library.

If you go to your local comic book store, ask for the "all ages" comics.

There's a Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew comic books/ graphic novels series.

A good comic store and/ or children's/ youth/ teen librarian can also give you some hints (I'm a bad one at the moment since I can't think of one without being at work!

A lot of boys I know in that age range also love Garfield...

This probably isn't what you're looking for, but my 5 year old dd1 absolutely adores Hathor the Cow Goddess (http://www.thecowgoddess.com/). The conversations that reading has sparked have been interesting!
