We haven't made habitats per se, but we do leave trees alone during nesting season and I do feed them whenever I get the chance to... right now I've got some food out for the Baltimore Orioles that are nesting in a tree in our yard.

Rencently, I have found 2 birds (one in my yard, one on a sidewalk near my house)just laying dead on the ground. No aparent wounds or anything. One was under a tree, like it just fell out or something. It seems pretty random but random it is not.

This is very sad

. We have native plants and such in our yard, bird feeders, etc, but habitat destruction is such a negative thing to try to combat.

If you're in the US, please please please report dead birds to your local public health department. Everyone should do this. This is the time of year that West Nile Virus starts showing up in bird populations, and surveillance of bird populations is a really big part of our keeping tabs on the virus.

In the past few years, I've noticed more and more hummingbirds in summer. I never saw a hummingbird around here until about 12 years ago. I attribute that to global warming.

Its sad to think of common everyday birds being lost.
