I had my 20 week u/s yesterday and the good news is the baby looks great!
:
But they discovered i have complete previa and after talking to several doctors AND my homebirth midwife it sounds like the placement is not likely to resolve itself. I have a follow-up scan in 8 weeks to see if there is any change, but i am trying to be realistic and focus on the positives. Healthy baby and this is one instance, where thank God, we have modern medicine.
I am pretty scared about what's to come and would love to hear any positive stories you may have even if they ended with a c-section.
I do not have a medical dr. , have only been to my first appointment, and I was really hoping for one scan only and now it looks like i will have many more to monitor the babies growth and such. ugh.

Pretty blue today

Thanks for reading

I'm really sorry to hear that - but agree about the final result being a healthy baby
. Do you have the option of no c-sec until you go into labor naturally? That way you know the baby is ready?

no unfortunately if the placenta stays put they can not risk labor starting on its own so they usually take the babe around 37 weeks!!

Most cases of previa do move though, so good luck!
was your friend put on bed rest? (this is another big fear i have) Did she bleed during pregnancy? and last ? was the baby ready to be born?

She had her c/s at 38 weeks, and the baby didn't have breathing or any other problems.

She interviewed a few obs until she found one whose philosophies were compatible with hers. She was not on bed rest, and she didn't bleed as far as I know.

I'm sorry you have to deal with the previa--but congrats on a healthy baby! Yay!

I did not have previa but I did have a c-section with my second child due to her being breech. I think having it be a scheduled section really helped me deal with the whole thing. I made sure that I had a good birth plan and that my new doctor (I had been planning on a free-standing birth center delivery) was agreeable with what we requested. I do not feel traumatized by the experience--sure I would have preferred to go with my original plans--but I made peace with it and actually ended up having the best post partum period out of any of my children! If I had to have another c-section I would be ok with it knowing that it wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared. Anyway, I hope that helps. I do hope that your placenta does move up and that you don't have to have a section but if you do, please know that it really can be a wonderful birth!!

I'm sorry to hear about the previa. I know when I found out DS was still breech at 38 weeks I'd be headed down the scheduled c-section route as well and it was hard. But my section was easy (as far as they go). Having it scheduled was, I would think, easier than laboring and THEN having a section. I recovered fast, babe was in great condition, and of course, as you mentioned, the most important thing is that babe is healthy and that you are safe as well. I hope it DOES move for you but so glad to hear your baby is doing well!

Sorry to hear your plans have to change....... But I've been through a c-section and its not the end of the world. Its the beginning of a journey! Yours is 100% medically necessary and so your journey should start on a sweet note rather than one of regret and sorrow. I also agree that a c-section without a long labor ahead of it could be a pretty simple procedure and recovery time. And just think, if you decide to have another babe you can be a VBAC warrior!!

Thanks for sharing your story. I do feel that a planned necessary section is very different than an unplanned emergency one and will take the opportunity to read all i can about how to have the best possible experience. Thanks for the inspiration.

I do think that this is very true. It seems like the fact that there is no other way makes it a bit easier. I am pretty shell shocked right now and have alot of "what if" scenarios in my head. Maybe i should keep the "what if its a wonderful birth experience and its much easier than 48 hour of natural child birth (which was my son)" Looking for the bright side.

Hey--whether you have a c-section or a vaginal delivery I bet this time will much easier than your 48 hour ordeal! Those second babies tend to come much faster!
Oh--I talked to a friend today who actually just had a u/s at 32 weeks to check on her placenta--it had been nearly a complete previa and she really didn't have much hope that it would move. Earlier in her pregnancy she had dealt with bleeding and partial bed rest due to the placental issues. Well guess what? Its moved up enough since her 20 week u/s to where she has the ok to have a vaginal birth! She's pretty stoked! Anyway, just thought I would share that since its so close to what you are dealing with!

My first son was a C-section and it was not horrible. Not what I had planned, but things changed. Recovery was fine and my scar was minimal...as in hairline and very hard to find.

My second son was a V-bac.

well i had my 28 week scan today to follow-up about the previa and unfortunately the placenta has not moved AT ALL.
: It is still completely covering the cervical opening. Good news is the baby looks great.

They scheduled me for another scan in 4 weeks. I am starting to think this will be a "belly birth"

Sorry to hear about the previa... hoping that it will clear up, but if it doesn't, hoping that you will have a good and caring doctor and a gentle experience.

At least you have time to prepare for it and become comfortable with it.

And on the best note-- congrats on the healthy baby
