I bought a Lucky Baby sling before my dd was born. And I've never tried wearing any of my other babies...so, slinging is new to me, and I'm horrible at it.

My dd is 17 days old and she HATES to be in the sling.

I'm not even sure I'm wearing her correctly. And it seems so difficult to get her in the sling...I don't know if I'm supposed to put her in it and then put the sling on...or if I'm supposed to put the sling on and then put her in it.

It's all so cumbersome, trying to get her situated...and she just seems so uncomfortable in there.

Here's a link to the site I bought the sling from, and I ordered the one in the picture at the top of the page for "Reversible Slings"...

Any suggestions or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible that your sling is sized wrong? I suggest putting the sling on then placing the baby in. With the sling on, hold baby upright against your chest, then just slide her down until her feet are level with the edge of the sling. Then use one hand to help manuver her feet in and slide her the rest of the way in. If she seems way to tightly confined it may be too small of a sling...

Try googling your local area for slinging mama's, sling shops, babywearing sites. You may find someone locally who can give you hands on help. I think it takes so much trial and error sometimes that having an IRL experienced mama can be a lifesaver.

I remember some of those feelings! There is definitely a learning curve to it, and each age and position has it's own techniques. Yes, you always put the pouch on first and get it adjusted. And once baby is in and positioned correctly, you have to move, move, move! Best to be outdoors but wherever you are, bop if you can't walk but walk briskly if you can. Don't even bother trying to learn if baby is hungry or fussy until you are good at it, at which point babywearing can be a lifesaver for hungry/fussy babies. Practice in a mirror with a stuffed animal; learn to open the pouch, drop the bear in with tushed on the seam, head positioned correctly. Not the same as a real baby, but it can be so stressful to do with a real baby. Get to a NINO meeting if you can, and watch online videos either way. Any babywearing video will help you get the hang of it all.
