My 6 year-old is crazy about computer games, and mostly he plays free games online. We're pretty laid-back and I usually don't get too involved in what sort of games they are, but one thing I've noticed that I don't like is the insane amount of advertisement--he'll recite bits of commercials for me, like "fruit loops are nutritious blah, blah...". It drives me nuts<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1">!<br>
I don't like the fact that what he learns from the computer does not jive with my values, so I'm looking for alternative computer games that are really exciting, and have a good message (I'm thinking stuff like environment/conservation, good nutrition etc). Any ideas?

Here's a really fun link: <a href="http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/" target="_blank">http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/</a> no ads here!<br><br>
And by all means, he must do: <a href="http://www.webkinz.com/" target="_blank">http://www.webkinz.com/</a> You buy him a darling stuffed animal and not only will he have non-ad computer games but a host of other cute things as well. All my kids love it. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love">

Not sure if you'd call these games, but I like these sites:<br><br><a href="http://www.kabillion.com/" target="_blank">http://www.kabillion.com/</a><br><a href="http://www.meetthegreens.org/" target="_blank">http://www.meetthegreens.org/</a><br><a href="http://www.sustainlane.com/theunsustainables/" target="_blank">http://www.sustainlane.com/theunsustainables/</a>

i like a lot of what's already listed and wanted to also recommend crazy machines for anyone interested in gadgets. you have to put all these different pulleys, gears, levers, generators, fan etc together the right way to accomplish a goal. it's really really cool! it looks a lot harder than it is, my 6.5yo does it and has a lot of fun.<br><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325&tag=motheringhud-20&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FViva-Media-00330-Crazy-Machines%2Fdp%2FB000NID64Q%2Fref%3Dpd_bbs_sr_1%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dsoftware%26qid%3D1205343000%26sr%3D8-1" target="_blank">http://www.amazon.com/Viva-Media-003...5343000&sr=8-1</a>
