Fight for Democracy Rally - Count the votes in Ohio

December 6th - 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Investigate ALL 88 counties! Rally to Demand a Full Re-Counting of the Ballots. Sponsored by CASE (Citizens Alliance for Secure Elections). They have been working to stop the acquisition of electronic voting machines without a paper trail, and have been active in working with other groups to gather information from the counties and determine whether the election was a fair one. Tentative speaker: Jesse Jackson.

I'm quite concerned but feeling very depressed here since I believe that nothing we can do will matter anyway. Do you think Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell (a Bush supporter) will allow a recount to happen? I believe he'll just finally certify the vote and say the election process was a huge success. Also there's no chance that the mainstream media will cover any of the protests and irregularities. Problems with elections? Just in Ukraine, you know...

Anyway, I've been trying to at least keep a little hope alive and everyday I check on Bev Harris' blackboxvoting.org and other sites for any developments. I actually found got the info on the Dec 4th rally from:

http://www.donotconcede.com/CoalitionNews.html

I wish I could go but here's some detailed info if anybody is interested:

Fight for Democracy Rally

Fact:
Thousands of Ohio citizens had difficulty voting on
November 2nd.

Despite thousands of complaints, a planned recount,
statewide public hearings,
several lawsuits, a Congressional investigation and the outcry of voters rights groups, this fact has been dismissed or underreported by the mainstream media. Even Secretary of State, Kenneth Blackwell, indicated the Ohio election was a huge success, saying, "We came through with flying colors."
Washington Times, 11/04/04

We need thousands of people to attend our
"Fight for Democracy Rally"
to draw attention to voter issues AND to
support the Congressional probe of allegations of irregularities in the November 2nd presidential vote.

Please plan to attend and bring your friends!

America?s election system is badly flawed. So flawed, that a Cal Tech/MIT study of the 2000 Election discovered that as many as one in 18 citizens was disenfranchised due to procedural and/or technological anomalies. The 2004 election was no different! All citizens must have equal access to voting and the electoral process in order to ensure our democracy!

Mommymama, thank you for your post and the other useful links...

If I lived ANYWHERE near Ohio, I would be there tomorrow to protest the stealing of Ohio's electoral votes through voter suppression and voter abuse.
But unfortunately, I am in Seattle and have young children so I can't attend the rally.

Please, I urge all who are concerned, despondent, depressed about the election outcome, please make your voices heard for democracy! Let's take a lesson from the citizens of Ukraine who are braving SUB-ZERO weather to make their votes count..... and their Supreme Court just declared their election results invalid and called for a new election before the end of the month due to the illegitimacy of their election.

Here's what I sent to Keith Olbermann of MSNBC (the only media outlet that is covering Ohio on a daily basis)....

Keith,
thank you for your continued coverage of the voting problems in Ohio. Please consider airing the following comment from a Berkeley daily newspaper. It is an irony that should be given the widest dissemination possible as quickly as possible....

Berkeley Daily Planet, Tuesday, November 30, 2004.

Speaker Ross Boylan of United for Peace and Justice said it was ironic that “while U.S. Senator Richard Lugar says that problems with the recent Ukrainian elections were proved by discrepancies between the vote and the exit polls,” the American national media has virtually ignored the same discrepancy in the 2004 U.S. Presidential election."

How can the United States be so hypocritical? The discrepancy in our election between the vote count and the exit polls warrants further meaningful investigation instead of a complete discounting of the implications of said discrepancy. Our media was quick to interview people who said the exit polls were wrong. How often in our history, if ever, have exit polls being THAT wrong across the board?

Thank you again for your continued attention to this serious issue.

Of course if you were to recount the votes based upon the fact that many districts handed in numbers of votes that FAR exceeded the number of registered voters, that victory would disappear...

Yep! And lots of other problems including serious voter suppression in some areas. It is not acceptable that in this country anyone should have to wait in line for more than FOUR hours in bad weather in order to vote! Not to mention intentionally conflicting information from polling workers about various topics like can you cast your provisional ballot in a different precinct, etc....
