Our daughter starts out in her co-sleeper, and then usually moves into our bed around 1-2am. Our problem is that she will wake only a little later with tremendous congestion. We've used a cool mist humidifier, and are going to switch to a warm mist version because the temperature drops so much at night. She's 5mo, by the way, and teething.

Thanks!! Cee

Have you tried adding a little ecalyptus or mint to the humidifier? That sometimes helps with congestion. When DD is congested, many times I will sleep with her propped up on arm and use gravity to help clear the congestion. Saline nasal spray is also very helpful. Give a couple of good squirts up the nose, then suction everything out!

A lot of times, the congestion will clear on its own once the teeth erupt.

Babies R Us sells these firm wedge shaped things that go on top of your mattress, under your sheets for baby to sleep on and keep her at a little incline to help the drainage flow. It was so helpful with DS1, he was pretty stuffy too

Our naturopathic pediatrician had us use saline solution and a bulb syringe to clear out congestion. DS didn't like it but it really worked and let him sleep through the night.

Here's how we did it- It takes two people:
Get a pure saline solution like Ocean brand. Lay the baby down on a pillow with head tilted back. Hold the saline bottle above the nose and drop a few drops in each side w/out touching the bottle to baby's nose. Use the nasal aspirator to suck out each side. Sometimes you have to cover the other nostril with your finger so you can get a good suction with the syringe. Have some tissues handy to blow the snot onto and to wipe off baby's nose. Do this a few times until you get out all the snot.

Like I said, it's not really fun-but it works and it will keep your little one's congestion from turning into ear infections and you will all get more sleep.
