For the past three days, I've been horribly constipated. I drink at least 64oz of water a day not including herbal teas, eat leafy veggies, and fermented foods and beverages. The only dairy I consume is raw butter.

I also have to adhere to a grain-free and GF diet, but this is killing me. Is there a good TF friendly remedy for this when fermented food isn’t working?

Other things I tried:

Magnesium Citrate
More CO
Kim chee (spelling?)

Are you actually straining to go/feeling like you need to go but can't OR are you just going less frequently than usual? If it's the latter I wouldn't worry about it. When you eat fewer grains you are digesting more of your food and producing less waste.

If it's the former, then there's usually 3 things that work for me - eating a bunch of fat, drinking coffee, or taking mag citrate.

Actually, a little bit of both. I feel like I NEED to go, but not that much. Its uncomfortable at times. Ill get some espresso since I havent had any in a while - but I thought that actually dry you up?

I already eat a lot of fat so I dont think I need more.

Mag citrate would normally work (taken before bed) but it didnt this time!

I also work out and do Yoga and Yoga alone used to get me going.

Kombucha is famed for curing constipation. Maybe increase your KT consumption?

I drink 16 oz a day. Maybe my body is used to it. Is it safe/OK to drink more?

If you're already used to drinking that amount, there's no reason you can't drink more. But if kombucha was going to help in this case, I would have thought 16oz would do the trick.

I don't know whether this will work for an adult, but my DS had HORRIBLE painful constipation for months when he was around a year old. I tried all kinds of things but the only thing that helped was giving him coconut oil. Just a little spoonful per day completely solved the problem. (More than that gave him the runs.) Maybe a bit more coconut oil in your diet would, um, smooth things along?

I used to do green smoothies, but have gotten away from that. That might do the trick!

I take about 4+ tbs of CO a day so I'm not sure if I need more. I even took an extra 2 tbs before bed last night with some tea - nothing.

Have you cut out fruit? Maybe that might help things along. Lemon water, grapefruit, etc. I hate that feeling.

Yerba Mate?

My husband being Argentine, drinks Yerba Mate at least 3 times a day. I'll usually share it with him. Not sure how TF this is, however, the gauchos have been doing the same for quite some time now and it's the thing they swear by for keeping them regular out on the pampas. It also works wonders for us.

If you don't want to drink a whole giant smoothie or don't like them you could always pulvurize (how you spell that!) some greens with a little water and down the hatch type of thing....although that might be a little yuck LOL

I don't know what it is but especially if you dont' do it all the time, it really makes me go, big time

I know prunes are high in sugar, but they are our go-to food for constipation. All the "p" fruits are supposed to work: peaches, pears, prunes, ??

drink some strong coffee, up your fats. This helps me I go best when I am "well oiled".
Also try massage. And think good thoughts. Seriously. Imagine yourself being able to. Minor stress is a big setback for me.

If you can handle a one-time hit of sugar, the best remedy for constipation I know of is stewed rhubarb. You can generally find frozen rhubarb at the grocery store, that'll work. Just put it in a saucepan with a little water and a LOT of sugar (or sucanat - but TBH I'd treat it like medicine and just use the white stuff for this) until it's sweet enough that you can eat about a cup of it once it's cooked down to mush. Gulp it down and you should have results in a couple hours. It probably won't be fun but it'll get things going. (Note: not a long-term solution.)

I think the (organic, fair trade) espresso helped.

I'm going to keep up with the kombucha and have some coffee tomorrow.

carnelian I took 450mg of mag citrate. The brand is Nature Value.

450mg of mag citrate isn't all that much. My 28lb 3.5 yo gets about that every day for his chronic constipation and I seem to be mag deficient (get achey legs and irreg. heart beat) and take up to 1200mg/day with no extra movement. Maybe a little more mag if needed? Of course coffee always gives me a good cleaning out, too
