i'm "due" friday and since about 5pm or so I've been having contractions every now and then (havent timed anything...they are far apart enough i guess to not count yet but they are lasting about a minute) and my belly gets *hard* and it feels like stabbing with little pins all over--it's not *so* painful but it definitely is enough for me to stop and think/say "um, that hurts"

are these contractions? what could the 'pin stabbing' feeling be caused by?

Think of it this way, the more your uterus *practices* the stronger it gets, and the stronger it gets the better it will work for you during labor

Just trying to offer some optimism...

I never felt pains like that during labor. It felt very tight, and the early contactions felt almost identical to menstrual cramps, but of course quickly changed.
