Convertible Car Seats?

618 Views 16 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Throkmorton
My ds who is just turning 7 months old is outgrowing his infant car seat and we HAVE to buy him a new one this weekend. I don't have any other friends with babies so what type of converitble car seat do you own? Do you like it or not?
Any suggestions?

my Britax Marathon! You will likely get a lot of recommendations for Britax but the most important thing is to find one that fits your car, is easy to use and will keep your babe rear-facing for as long as possible. If you go to babiesrus you can try them out in your car before purchasing.

Oh and we need something that works well on planes as well....
We went with the Evenflo Triumph because of safety & price (~$100). DS is very comfortable, and it travels great on the plane. It's very easy to install & remove, also very easy to adjust.

There was a post last week that was very similar, and aside from the Britax most mamas chose the Triumph as well.

I just have to say that I highly do NOT recommend the Eddie Bauer Elite 3 in 1. It was such a PITA I'm about to pop a vein just thinking about it!! We ended up getting a Britax Boulevard. I know it is really expensive, but there are features that it has that I think are worth the money. Just the fact that you do not have to re-thread the harness straps as babe gets taller was a total selling point for me and dh!!

So far, babe and I are really happy with the Boulevard.
We bought a Boulevard after chatting with a car seat tech and hearing other car seat techs say it's what they did/would buy. What sold us was that it has side impact protection and can be used rear-facing for up to 33 lbs! And the whole not having to re-thread the harness straps rocks, too

My sis has a Marathon and told me to get them, too. I'm not at that stage yet, but everything I hear tells me we'll be getting some type of Britax.
I love my Evenflo Triumph 5. It is very easy to install and it's easy to adjust the tightness of the straps as well as the height. It also got pretty good ratings and is in a price range I could comfortably afford. Also, it's got this pretty neat "stay cool" typle padding that keeps the seat from getting ridiculously hot. I think overall it's a great carseat although I might have given the Britax a try if I had to do it all over again because of all the rave reviews and because I like the name.

I would also recommend the Britax Boulevard. We are expecting our first in June and I have done a ton of reading on car seats. This one has side impact protection and is certified to be used on an airplane. Good luck!
We have the britax wizard- now the boulevard. I wouldn't have my dd in anything less. We've flown with it several times without a problem.

If you can swing a Britax, I say do it! If not, there are still other good seats for what you can afford. Do you have a budget in mind?
Well - we can afford it, but we would rather not spend 220 on a Britax but then again we will do what is the best.
lucky you can afford the Britax

I know everytime I see these threads it makes me feel like less of a person because if I spent that $200+ on a carseat we'd not be able to make a mortgage payment.

But that said, we're very happy with our Graco Comfort Sport.

We have the Evenflo Triumph DLX and love it. It has more padding in the seat than alot of the other ones do. It was about $140 at BRU.

Sometimes BRU have coupons for if you spend $25 you get $5 off. I have also seen $ off coupons on carseats for them.
I LOVE my Britax Marathon!
I really like that the cover is machine washable, but i wish the straps were too...

it fits nicely in our corolla, and when it was rear facing, it fit better than the infant bucket seat did...

second coice was the triumph.
Well, the Marathon is expensive, but it does last most kids until they are 5 or 6 years old (as opposed to 3 or so with smaller convertibles)

We couldn't justify the cost because we are in Canada where the MA costs an arm, a leg and a kidney. We actually ended up buying a deluxe version of the Cosco Scenera. The Scenera is a good seat, especially for the price. just make sure to get the 5-point harness version, not the overhead shield.
