Can anyone recommend a good inexpensive convertible seat for my MIL's minivan? DS is 15 months and approx 21lbs. She'll probably be driving him fairly infrequently. She does want something that's easy to install since she probably won't keep the seat in the car. She has 2 dogs so when she takes them out in the car, she folds the seats flat. Thanks.

What's your budget like? If you want to keep it under 100, I'd go with the Safety First Avenue. (It's only a 40 lb seat, but it has tall top slots, a reasonably tall shell, and EPS foam.)

It will need a pool noodle for installation.

If you can spend a bit more, I'd look at the Evenflo Triumph Advance (rear faces to 35, forward faces to 50, has a non-rethread harness), or the Graco My Ride (rear faces to 40, forward faces to 65). Both of those seats are very nice, easy to install, and won't need a towel or pool noodle.
