Hi mamas.....Ok, I've signed up for WW 4 times.....but have only followed the program one time (and i lost 17 lbs in 6 weeks).
I wound up quitting because 1. I was hungry and 2. I HATE having to follow a plan.

Here's where I need help. I've tried "doing it on my own" and it hasnt worked....I've just gained weight

I think Im to the point where I just HAVE to do this because my health is at risk as well as my happiness. I hate the idea of being a slave to a program for the rest of my life and I hate the idea of turning into a person who's life revolves around their weight loss plan

I think part of me is still in the mindset that this weight gain is just temporary...a minor set back (ok 6 years later and still gaining
)

How do you resolve yourself to the fact that you ARE overweight and you DO need a plan or you WILL wind up with diabetes (i'm pre diabetes now) or some other health problem
Also....I dont want to join WW and wind up eating all my points in chocolate and doughnuts.....I want to be healthy and thin....not just thin......is this possible? Thanks mamas....guess I just need that extra push that WW is worth it

ok, your story sounds just like my story. i have started ww more times then i care to admit, and then when i am on it i dont eat healthy food. i also dont want to spend the rest of my life on points. i was also always hungry on ww. what i would say is that you have not even started back and you are already ready to fail, you dont really sound like you like the plan that much, and if you are hungry then it isnt right to do. have you thought about doing the core plan? that is eating alot of healthy whole foods. i do south beach because it is so many healthy whole foods and nothing to count or measure(ok so i have to watch my cheese and nut intake
) i know eating sb my skin seems so nice and healthy looking, i dont have all the bloating i used to have, i dont have the mood swings that i used to have, and i dont EVER go hungry. i believe that the core plan is really close to sb but you have flex points on core that you can use on thoes yummy yummy bad carbs and that is what i do so i cant do core, carbs do a number on me and i just cant stop eating them once i start. i think that ww can be done if you are really good about eating the right foods. i hope that you come up with something that works for you

I actually bought the south beach diet book and have read maybe three pages
:
I would like to do it but there are many foods I have an intolerance to.....eggs, dairy, oats...bacon makes me sick too

From your experience, is it possible to do SB without those foods?

hmmm, i would have a hard time without the eggs but i think that someone on the sb thread doesnt eat eggs. bacon isnt something they say you can eat so no worries there
there isnt alot of dairy that you can eat on sb and again i think that someone on the sb thread does it without dairy. oats it would be easy to do without. if you like beans that is good as you can have thoes, there are about a million different salads you can do, fish, chicken, tons of veggies, some red meats, after the first two weeks you can have fruit. i just eat alot of stuff like tuna stuffed tomatoes, chicken salad in tomatoes, i like stuffed peppers, chili, you can have some soups. yes it would be hard without the eggs for me but im sure you are used to no eggs and dairy. it gets easier as you go along, there is alot of support on the sb thread even though i just normally lurk there
: you just have to be ready to commit to a life of eating healthy and yes, we all still have our days where we are weak but you just pick up and move on. i still think about the deep fried oreos that someone on the sb thread was eating

i would say look over the book and read the sb thread and see if it is something you think you could do, and also check out the core foods for ww and see if that is a better option for you

I wouldn't (didn't) do WW b/c of the cost. I figured there is no reason I should pay for something I can do for free. I bought the South Beach Diet book. Took me 3 mos to read it. Dh and I started together- he's lost 80+ lbs, see my sig for my info.

The first 2 weeks are HARD, but after that it gets much easier. It's more about changing eating habits than a 'diet'. I also needed EASY b/c I was student teaching, which is a full time job that you don't get paid for. I don't count, weigh, or measure. Just a few simple rules.

Bacon isn't really 'allowed'. Lowfat diary is ok, but you can do it without. You can do w/o eggs if you need to- I like hard boiled eggs to snack on, so I couldn't do without them, but you could. I still haven't re-introduced oats, so it's very possible to go w/o.

Read the threads - there's one for July/August and one from June.

GREAT support group.

Really, the only thing that can make you do it is you. No program, no book, no peer pressure, etc. Just you.

I took it one day at a time and said I would follow the SBD exactly for 2 weeks (phase 1) and if I didn't lose, I'd quit. It was rough, but I kept telling myself I could do anything for 2 weeks. I'm pretty stubborn, so that kept me going. I lost enough that I was encouraged to keep going. I wore a 20W when I started, now I'm a size 16 and almost ready to go down to a 14.

You can do it if you want to, you just need to make the decision.

I've always though WW was dumb and I'm pretty conservative, so I didn't think it'd be worth the money. I was really wrong.

You can follow the Core plan (no tracking points, but eat certain foods) or the Points plan (eat whatever, but limited to a certain amount of points a day). I'm a picky eater and knew the Core plan was not for me, so I am on the Points plan.

I like being held accountable by others-some weeks I gain, others I loose and they have a good way of keeping me encouraged without making me feel bad for gaining. I pay $12/week (although the new monthly pass they are doing is a great deal-$40/month) and now that I'm on maintenance, I pay $6/week. After six weeks on maintaining, I'm considered a Lifetime Member and don't pay anything (unless I gain more than 2 lbs)-so I'll probably pay after having a baby or something, but knowing that I will eventually go for free motivates me too.

The thing that motivated me to go wasn't my weight (I really didn't have a lot to loose-10 pounds at the most), BUT I was making bad choices and I knew it would come to haunt me later. My husband and I want to TTC #1 and I knew there was no way I wanted to pass along my habits to my children. Besides, I wanted to be healthy going into pregnancy as well. It's been a complete lifestyle change-but I've done it gradually (and still have a ways to go). That's why it's working-it's not a quick-fix. Honestly, I don't feel that I'm on a "weight loss plan" and that's what I like about WW. I can still go out to eat and not worry about it. I can use my daily points or bonus points and have that chocolate donut if I want. The funny thing is, the longer I'm on WW, the less I crave those things. Now, I crave a cup of grapes or something. Also, by writing down your points and what you eat, you begin to see how all the little things can add up.

I would encourage you to go to a WW meeting in your area and try it. I know in my area, you can get in free the first time and sit in on a meeting and decide if it's for you. A lady did that a couple weeks ago and asked us questions and no one thought twice of it. Good luck!
