Cooked fruit vs fresh?

When making homemade baby foods, most of the foods require cooking. At what age can an infant have fresh fruits as opposed to cooking them?

My guy's never had cooked anything.. he eats tons of fresh fruit and veggies.. he started when he was 6 months (tastes) and then was eating by 8 months usually every day or every other day.

Hope that helps.. Raw fruits are not harmful.

Then why do all the baby food recipes tell you to cook them? (Not questioning your judgement, just asking)

I wondered that, too! My guess is, to make them soft enough.

I mainly gave cooked fruit, but I think it was when my ds was 7 months or so that I gave him bites of a very soft peach I was eating. I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing, but it gave us both a lot of pleasure...a fond memory that makes me want to have another baby!
I think some have to be cooked for choking reasons like apples but there are plenty of fresh fruits that are recommended for babies like pears. I would puree a soft ripe pear for my dd when she was 6mo and she loved it. Fresh pureed papaya is also great and full of digestive enzymes.
allismom - i'd agree - it's probably just the antiquated idea that babies need to eat their mush! or maybe it's because jarred food is the "norm" and the recipes say to cook because jarred food is cooked? the choking reason is probably closer to the truth.. i've made a raw applesauce. liam didn't much care for it, but he was younger then.
