I'm going to be visiting my cousin this summer who lives in the Portland area. I'm from Indiana and he's trying to find loads of cool stuff for us to do. We're both photographers. Already on our list of things to do are: Mount Angel Abbey, Mt. St. Helens, Crater Lake. Anything else we might be missing that is within a two hour drive?

There's a ton of waterfalls along the Columbia George and a few hot springs within a two to three hour drive.

I second trekking along the gorge. Specifically, Multnomah falls would probably provide you with some lovely photography opportunities. It's a very easy drive (about 45 minutes from Portland).

http://trips.stateoforegon.com/multnomah_falls/

I would strongly suggest taking a trip to Mt. Hood, too. The views are breathtaking up there, and Timberline lodge is a very unique place even without being on top of a mountain. And it is much, much closer to Portland than Saint Helens (about an hour to Hood, vs. 3 and half to St. Helens). The lodge has a rich history too.

http://www.timberlinelodge.com/tours-activities/

Crater Lake is QUITE a drive from Portland (about 5 hours). It is fabulously beautiful, yes, but I wouldn't consider it to be "close" by any means.

Since Crater Lake is such a long drive we're going to be staying in a cabin there. My cousin hasn't ever been there so we're wanting to be able to spend as much time there as we can. He actually lives in Salem, and can see Mt. Hood from his house (but I don't know how close he actually is to it) so I'm sure we'll make a trip there, too. I think, now that you mention it, that Multnomah Falls is also on the list of places we plan on going. I wish I had thought to add a couple more days to my trip, but at the time I booked I was worried about how much I would miss my boys and how much they would miss me. Thanks for the suggestions, and keep 'em coming!

Agree completely with the above! There's also some cool stuff in Portland as well. Some common ones: The bridges, waterfront, Mt Tabor, Sauvie Island, to name a few. Also, the coastal areas are lovely, and Seaside, Tillamook, and Astoria are all within a couple hours' drive from Portland.
Here's a link to give you some ideas:
http://www.portlandground.com/
Have fun!
