Does anyone have the Core Knowledge Preschool book? Do you like it? Is it worth buying? What kind of stuff is in it? I have the 1st grade edition. Is there a Kindergarten book? Should I just buy Kindergarten and skip preschool? I am trying to write education goals combining preschool and kindergarten material for this year for ds. He will be 4 in a few weeks. If you have the preschool book and or the kindergarten book I would appreciate your thoughts.

I don't have the preschool one, but we have K-5, and my girls LOVE them. They use them to "play school"<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/rolleyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="rolleyes">: , and are fun for rainy days. Whether to base a curriculum on them is more dependent on the child, though - my oldest hated reading anything from the Core Knowledge books.

I don't know if heve changed the preschool one at all, but when I looked into it a couple years ago, it was rteally into the classroom management mindset, not really for parents like the other ones but more for real classroom teachers -- things like teaching them to raise their hands and stand in line. The other things it mentioned I figured I could cover without their book on it. We have the K and it is a pretty easy place to start. Lots of short reading in there about all the subjects they are "supposed to" be learning about. We aren't as formal as to base a curriculum around it (we're pretty eclectic, a little of this, some of that) but at least reading something from the different subjects in it to the kids really covers a lot. Sometimes we'll expand on it what we read about with another story, craft, food, game, movie whatever. And it's pretty easy to integrate into life for us. We got ours at Costco and they were really cheap, like$7.99 I think.
