corn syrup

My aunt makes this pecan pie that we LOVE and I've been having crazy cravings for it lately. Only problem is it calls for a cup of dark brown corn syrup which I would really rather not use. Are there any alternatives that would be a little bit better, a little less processed and still give me that sweet gooey consistency? Or am I stuck with succuming to corn syrup if I want this pie? Thanks so much

I imagine you could use any liquid sweetener - rice syrup, agave nectar, barley malt syrup.
You might try an internet search for "corn syrup substitute". I think you can mix dark brown sugar and water and heat to the soft boil stage and end up with a reasonable approximation. You still have the sugar, but at least it's not high fructose corn syrup
