"Corporate medicine" is a term used for a variety of things. It often refers to a MD who practices occupational medicine. Typically, this person is doing one of three things: 1) working for a large corporation as an MD, seeing employees as patients and working to prevent workplace injuries, 2) working in an independent clinic and seeing a company's employees or reviewing its workplace health issues under contract or individually; or 3) working for an HMO or insurance company and doing such tasks as reviewing medical claims. But the term is also used to refer to MDs who work in large practices that are affiliated with major HMOs. When used in this way, it often has a negative connotation and is sort of like using the term "corporate law" to refer to any big-firm litigator.
