So I have been researching carseats....thus the previous thread about carseats with five point harness. My research has brought me to two carseats. THe britax regent and the Cosco Apex. I discussed the possibility of dropping $250 on a regent with my BF, and he didn't want to hear anymore. Although we do like to do the best we can, we cannot spend that much money on a carseat right now.

However, I recently discoved the Apex. I have read that you have to have high head rests....however when looking at the features and descriptions online, there's no mention of this. I have a bench seat in my explorer, my current careseat, is about 2 inches from the top of the seat. BTW, I have an Eddie Bauer T-shield. I was wondering where or why it specifies that you need a high backed seat for head protection.

Also, if you own this carseat...please tell me your experiences with it. Its not totally out since we are in the market for a new car as well.

Denise- it states very plainly with pictures in the instruction manual. What is your dc's age, height and weight?

ah..I see. I haven't looked at an instruction manual. It looks like if this were an important detail...which, I consider to be very important, this would be in all online buyer descriptions.

My DS is 30lbs...I haven't had his height checked lately....I know at one point his was in the 75%tile for height.

Thanks...I guess I will keep looking or atleast hope that other carseat makers will make an afforable carseat with extended harness use.

There is a picture of the manual and the area that states that a headrest or highbacked seat would be necessary here... http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...gAnch=imgAnch1

I just wanted you to be able to see what cosco says about the headrest issue. Anyhow the sunshine kids radian goes to 65 pounds and is around $200. That isn't cheap, but certainly cheaper than the regent. We do have a husky, previous name of the regent and its a lovely seat just really large.

My memory isn't that great, but I used to have an Explorer, and I seem to remember adjustable headreasts in the outboard positions of the bench seat. Mine was a 1999 XLT model, not sure if they vary from model or year. If that is the case, you could put the Apex in the outboard position, right? I'd strongly suggest that you go to the store and try it out in your vehicle before purchasing it. I have an Apex and used it in my 2004 Expedition for a short time, but replaced it because I couldn't get as tight of a fit as I would like. Hope this helps.

I have one in my Volvo XC90 and have had not problems. We have headrests that can not be removed but over all I like the seat. I started using it when Nathan was about 32lbs and 2 yrs old. I have a couple pics of him in the seat email me if you would like to see them

I just wanted to mention ALL t-sheild seats are expired and you need to get rid of it ASAP, it's not safe to use for your child.

How old is your child? If you're talking about a 30# 3yo, that's different than one who just turned 1. You don't necessarily need a higher weight limit seat if your child is a little older, just maybe higher slots.
