Okay...so I started using a weighted blanket with dd. She has SPD, and I found out last week (after waiting three months for the test) that she has moderate hearing loss due tofluid in her ears.

She has been having a really hard time with super tantrums and not paying attention/tuning people out lately.

The only new thing that I can think of is the weighted blanket. Which is supposed to help with this not make it worse....

Any ideas.

I'd think it is more likely that the increased fluid is leading to the tuning out. She might be uncomfortable and that leads to more tantrums. Most kids are more on edge when they hurt or are even uncomfortable.

I can't imagine how a weighted blanket would cause ear fluid.

Rachelle,
I don't think she was saying the weighted blanket was causing the fluid but the tantrums. Maybe I'm wrong though?

I agree that the fluid would be a more likely cause or something altogether unrelated. If it was the weighted blanket I'd imagine she'd be throwing it off herself or complaining about it in a direct way, not throwing tantrums.

Either way I hope you figure out the cause!

Oops..sorry MomtoS!
I don't know how/why I somehow connected that on my own.
My only excuse is I have a stomach virus and barely slept last night!

I guess I'm wondering though if the fluid might be the cause of the increases you see. If you think the fluid has always been there I still think it's likely something else is causing the problems and not the blanket. Unless the blanket is causing her to get less sleep maybe?? Is that possible? The fluid could mess with sleep too if that has been increasing.

My kiddo does this too (increases volatility along with decreases in responsiveness). Sometimes it's really hard to figure out the underlying stuff so I feel for you.
