I saw this linked on a vaccine facebook page today and thought I would share.

It's a story of a healthy three year old girl in the UK who died from chicken pox. The chickenpox caused lesions on her lungs. Her mother, who is a nurse, is trying to spread awareness and advocate for the varicella vaccine to be put on the UK vaccine schedule.

What are your opinions on the varicella vaccine? If it weren't on the schedule would you get it for your child? And for those of you who live in the UK do you think it should be on the child vaccine schedule?

For me personally, I think I would get the vaccine. Death from chickenpox is rare, but before the vaccine there were over 100 deaths per year in the US and more than 11,000 hospitalizations. (http://children.webmd.com/vaccines/chickenpox-varicella-vaccine)

There has never been a death reported from the vaccine that I am aware of.

So what do you guys think?
