I went to the midwife today, and she tryed to find the heart beat with 3 different dopplers and was unable to. I am approx 11 weeks, so it could be that the baby is still too small, but it is still very stressful. She said we could wait a week and try again or go for an u/s tomorrow, so I chose the u/s there is no way I could be in limbo an enitre week. I have also been having weird lower abdominal pain, but no spotting or anything, so that kind of makes me feel like something isn't quite right anyway. I am trying to stay calm and let myself believe that whatever happens is for the best, but the worry is starting to get to me. So, anyway, please keep us in your thoughts.

I am not in your DDC but I saw your post and wanted to reply. When I was 13 weeks with this baby my midwife used the doppler for about 30 mins trying to find the HB and no luck. I went for an u/s the next day and baby was happily jumping around and waving with a beautiful HB of about 170 Baby was very active so I think he/she just kept swimming away from the doppler.

I also had lower abdomen achiness throughout my first trimester, I did not have this with my first pg. My midwife said it was a good sign and that it was my uterus expanding

I am now 29 weeks pregnant and all is well! I hope you have a great u/s

No doubt it is worrysome, but there are many mamas who do not get a heartbeat at 11 weeks. I hope you can get some relief in knowing that it seems to be somewhat common. Nevertheless, I am sending you good vibes! I would be nervous too. Its natural.

I just talked to an OB friend about this last night. Said that my MW found a HB at 10 weeks and she was saying that SHE (my friend) never even bothers to try that early because of just the reason you say here - you can't find it and then mom gets all worried that the baby is gone/dead and then you end up ordering an ultrasound anyway - and everything is fine.

Unless you're quite slim, it's very likely that she just can't quite get to it. I'm sure everything is fine, so don't worry

My MW couldn't find the baby's heartbeat at 11 wks either, she wasn't bothered, but I rented a doppler b/c it stressed me out, and I have found the baby's hb a couple of times at home (and no, I'm not hooking myself up to it every 2 minutes, lol, I've used it for *maybe* a total of 10 minutes. I needed the reassurance, and it kept me sane. Good luck at your u/s.

I feel your pain and sent you many positive vibes.

The last a radiologist spoke to me, the sack was "too small" and there wasn't anything in it. Then a technician turned around a week or two later and said "there's the heartbeat". Understandably, I don't really believe it and I won't until I see a big belly and a squirming baby in there.

I also have had some cramping in my lower abdomen. I was told I had developed two cysts on each of my ovaries, and that they would burst on their own eventually. Fun huh?

So keep those worries away from yourself and try to focus on the positive. Everything may still be just fine.

Try not to worry mama.

I'll be sending PT's your way!!!!! FWIW they couldn't find either of my kids heartbeats with the doppler until 13 weeks...and this baby was no exception. My doc does u/s also though so I was able to see the h/b right in the office.

Not in your ddc, but perhaps you have an anterior placenta? I had the same thing happen, but at 13 weeks, no hb found in office & then I went for u/s b/c I am a nervous person & baby was fine, but the placenta blocked him completely.

Good luck today!

also not in your ddc but wanted to share my story too. at 12 weeks my mw was able to find the hb with no problem.. but then at 16 weeks she tried with 4 different dopplers and nothing. an ultrasound that same day showed an anterior placenta and a happy squirmy baby right behind it..

at the 12 week appointment she even told me not to stress if she couldn't find it because at that point the baby is still behind the pelvis and has an olympic sized swimming pool to squirm about in and dodge the soundwaves!

dd3 was an anterior placenta and we couldn't hear her heartbeat for the longest time.... it worried me, too.

Hopefully you're seeing a bright, squirmy baby right now! Good vibes heading your way...
