how is everyone counting? i know that i conceived around the 1st of august so it seems really weird to me to count since my LMP mid july. i know this is how the dr's do it, and i have been through it once already with DD but still. does everyone count from LMP?

My doc counts from LMP so I do... the only reason to worry about how many weeks you are is to soothe the doc's mind... it is a way to make them feel more in control. Babies don't have calenders pinned to the side of the uterus, they come when they come.
Someone (ivy-mae?) posted a great link on how to calculate via conception date. You can google it too, I'm sure.

LMP is a pretty inaccurate way to calculate a "due date." Go by your conception date or an ultrasound date
I count by LMP just because I ovulated on Day 15, so pretty much exactly on schedule. If I hadn't, I'd just subtract 2 weeks from date of ovulation, and consider that my LMP and go from there with regards to weeks.

That's what I do. I ovulated on Day 15 also but when I told my CNM that I knew when I ovulated, she gladly set my EDD appropriately. I know it's only 1 day but it's 1 day that I wouldn't have had otherwise...

wish there was an easier way....since I haven't had a period in OVER three years..
If you know your ovulation/conception date, just count back 14 days and call that your LMP. Most calenders and books will use the LMP date (even though it adds on two bogus weeks) so I use that count for simplicities sake. It's too much work to say "I am 10 weeks based on my LMP, but really baby is only 8 weeks gestational age", ya know?

I'll find the calculator when google stops timing out on me. Huh.

i was having this very same issue a couple weeks ago. i too conceived around august 1st. i was counting from conception and wondering why people due a week or two before me were three or four weeks ahead of me. when i counted the weeks from conception to my due date, it was only 38 weeks. someone on here set me straight. i've now added the extra two weeks. we'll be eight weeks on sunday.

I just say gestational age.

Heh - that's the rub with the LMP. Few women have "perfect" cycles, you know? If I went by my LMP I'd be due March 5th. Wouldn't that be awesome!

Yes, I count from LMP because everyone else does. It doesn't change my 'EDD' - because 'EDD' is based on LMP as well. Now, I am not just going by typical 'LMP' - since I have a longer cycle than usual, ovulating later than usual - the typical 28 day/O on CD14 LMP calculator wouldn't work for me. Fertility Friend (the charting website I was using as well) also knows the day I ovulated (and they wern't wrong hehe) - So my 'EDD' - based on LMP is more accurate for me....does any of that make sense lmao...(basically, there are due date calulators out there that can give you a more accurate EDD with YOUR personal adjusted LMP)

So yes, I count by the week, with the two you get free. And if you go on any 'baby devleopment' site, they factor that in as well. I wouldn't be reading the right 'whats my baby doing now/whats growing/happening now' stuff if I didn't count in the two 'free weeks'.
My cycle was long- My LMP was something like June 16 and I ovulated on CD29, so if I went by LMP it would be WAY off.

Instead, I go by ovulation date (July 15th) minus two weeks. So that means that my fake LMP was July 1st.

So I count my pregnancy from July 1st.
I actually did ovulate right around cd14, so my LMP turned out to be right on when I had my u/s. I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow.

I also conceived around the 1st (I chart). I found an app for my iphone that lets you put in both your LMP date and your cycle length and I got April 26th FWIW. I have short cycles so counting from LMP alone would not be accurate for me. My LMP was July 24th.

I thought about fudging the LMP date for my midwife but she knows I chart anyway so I'm just going with ovulation date. I feel weird about lying and I'm afraid it might backfire. I haven't had my intake appointment yet so we'll see how receptive they are!

ETA: 7w4d today.
