How many CPF do you have? I saw a site that suggest having 4 dz for toddlers. That seemed like a bit much to me. Wouldn't 2 dz be fine?

And how often do you wash your prefolds? This site made it sound like you only needed to wash every 4 days. I wash every other day.

Can CPF sit longer than fitted or AIO diapers?

Thanks

I don't know from experience yet, but I would think that 2 dozen would be plenty if you wash every other day. I am more comfortable with letting my cpf's marinate
than my fitteds or aio's, because they don't have elastic or waterproof fibers to break down. That said, I wash everything every other day as well - every third day at the most. I have 14 cpf's and a dozen fitteds, plus 2 aio's.

hth!

I have a dozen cpfs (and a bunch of fitteds/AIOs) and wash every other day. In total, I have probably a little over 3 dozen dipes and I don't run out on laundry day--I just hate the thought of my dipes sitting there, getting stained.
:
So I wash them.

The problem with only having 2 dozen is that you HAVE to wash every other day. I prefer having 3 dozen diapers (prefolds or otherwise) so that I can wash when it's convenient or when the pail is full, rather than when I'm almost out of diapers. Right now, I'm using 18 regular 4x8x4 prefolds plus 16 fitteds and 1 AIO on 6 month old Nadia. I never feel desperate to wash (I do have 2 dozen infant 4x8x4s that I can use if I run out of bigger diapers, but that hasn't happened in a long time).

I also have 1 dozen Toddler 4x8x4s plus 4 fitteds for 3 year old Evalina. She only goes through 1-4 diapers a day, though - one at night, plus whatever she uses during the day, which is sometimes diapers, sometimes training pants and sometimes nakedness.
I never run out of diapers for Eva.

I use a dry pail I make sure i scrape all the poop I can off then in the pail it goes....... Yes it stinks when you take the lid off the pail and if I have any staining I just put them in the sun and they look great.........

Ok, then here's a question....if 24 diapers is the most you should do in a load of laundry, then how can you possibly need more than 24 diapers? Otherwise you're either overstuffing your washing machine and not getting them as clean, or having to do a second load anyway?

Do you do two loads and just do it at the same time to save hassle? I've been wondering about this!

I change my 5 month old baby in avarage about every 2 - 3 hours. I have 24 PFs and 6 covers and I have plenty to allow me to to laundry twice a week (every third day).
You DON'T need more than 24 diapers, specially not for a toddler.

I have 3 AIOS (which I never use) for when DH or baby sitters stay with my baby and I prefer washing those more often than twice a week. Prefolds can definetely "marinate" (as a previous poster put it) longer - specially the unbleached ones since poop stains won't show so much.

They say you need more than 2 dozens so you will spend more money. I understand why one would need 3 dozens for newnorns though...

Besides, it is not a hassle doing laundry 2x a week. It is just so easy... cold pre-wash - hot wash - cold rinse!

And you can only wash 24 diapers per load anyways... If I washed 1x a week, I would have to sit and wait for the first load to be done to begin the next. Washing twice a week allows me to let the machine work for me and I don't have to sit and wait. And I am never desperate because there are always some clean diapers left anyways... even having only 2 dozens!!

I have three dozen CPF and I am pretty sure I could do with less. I would never wash them all at once, but sometimes between the two times through the wash and then drying that takes a whole day, so we need those extra dozen to make it through wash day. Now DS is 2 and goes naked a lot so we could definately get by with 2 dozen, but when he was younger, 3 was really nice.

I'm just trying to picture where the hell I would keep 4 dz. toddler cpf's!!!!

My cpf stash:
3 dz. infants for dd (would of been fine w/2 dz.)
1 dz. prem. & 1 dz. toddler for 2 yr. old ds - right now, I'm really liking the ME sandys on him.

Well, I'm not sure where the #24 came from. I don't know how many diapers I wash in a load. Assuming I've got a full load of dirty diapers in the washer, my baby still has to wear SOMETHING while they're washing & drying. Nadia can go through up to 6 during that time, although I usually try to start a load right after her wetting-est time of day.

I have about 5 dozen prefolds and that is for two of mine who use them. I wash every day-every other day (2 in dipes full time and one part time adds up fast lol)...but even if I hold out and wash every other day I still have enough to spare. My point (and there is one
) is that about 2 dozen seems plenty per child to me - at that age at least

Here's what I just pulled out of my drier:

Covers:
1 - Stacinator Deluxe Fleece, size Large
1 - Bummis print SWW, size Medium
Total Covers: 2

Diapers:
2 - Infant 4x8x4 prefolds
9 - Regular 4x6x4 prefolds
2 - Toddler 4x8x4 prefolds
9 - Sweet Pea's Flannel Fitted Diapers, size Medium
1 - Sweet Pea's Flannel Fitted Diapers, size Small
2 - Sweet Pea's Overnight Fitted Diaper, size Medium
2 - Sugar Peas Fitted Diapers, size 1
Total Diapers: 27

Other Stuff:
12 - Single-ply wipes, flannel & terry
5 - Washies & wash cloths, assorted
1 - Bummis Training pants, size Medium
1 - 100% cotton training underwear
2 - cleaning rags, 14.5"x22"
2 - Carter's 100% cotton sleepers, size Large (these normally wouldn't get washed with the diapers, but I had pretreated a couple of stains and tossed them in the machine to get washed with the next load, which happened to be diapers)

This was not a particluarly large load. It certainly wasn't overly full. I washed last night, because I knew we were going out today, and I wanted to be able to pick and choose for the diaper bag, and I hate leaving a load half done when I leave the house for several hours, because then it feels like washing diapers took "all day." I had washed diapers previously on Sunday, and this load started Tuesday (every other day). I like being able to wait till the third day when it's more convenient.
