Lately i've been craving salt! Pure salt--maybe its an indication that my anemia (low blood in iron) is about to come about again which happened about 3 years ago. What effects does eating salt have on the unborn fetus?

too much salt will throw your electrolytes off i'm sure. could also give you some high blood pressure issues or make you swell from water retention.
i like salty munchies but cant really have any cuz they make me all swellie
ah well, such is life. i've been thankful that avoiding much salt is all i need to do so far to avoid the swelling, last pregnancy i was really swellie for most of the latter part of it and it sucked !

I don't usually salt anything in cooking and I really notice it if we eat elsewhere.

BUT

At the moment I cannot stop eating fresh juicy sliced tomatoes with a sprinkle of salt on. I am totoally addicted. I am eating about 4 a day and making a right mess of some of my tops with the juice and seeds spurting out over my sticky out belly!

I'm not eating any other salted snacks at all so I think I must want salt for a reason - probably because its so hot and I'm drinking a lot of fluids.
Most of the more alternative experts on pregnancy and birth etc always stress that pregnant mamas should salt things to taste. Other people may think it's too much salt, but if it tastes good to you, then eat it that way. Your body craves exactly what it needs mama, and if you eat more salt you will be compelled to drink more water, so maybe you are a bit dehydrated? Unless you are eating tablespoons of salt, I think you're fine. I'm sure it will pass if you listen to it.
I would suggest that idf you are craving salt (I am too!) That you use celtic sea salt rather then regular salt or even sea salt. It has many more trace minerals and goes through a much more gentle process. You can get it at most health food stores.
