i'm going to add onto the kombucha questions around here. my husband did kombucha in the late 80's and he finally stopped because it started creeping him out, like, the fact that he just really has no idea where this thing started and how each one must have come from some big kombucha mother somewhere...kind of alien like.

and, i've got to say, they're creeping me out too
: i had him move it because it was creepy to touch. and now the extra kombucha i poured out to let mellow before i put it in the fridge is growing more!!!

so i now have five scobys growing in my pantry
: what do i do with the "extras"? i feel weird just throwing them away... and i can totally see how sinister this whole thing is, they just keep reproducing and you keep giving them away and then there's scobys EVERYWHERE!!

so, uh, do your scobys creep you out?

:!!! Sorry
:
That tickled my funny bone.
I always keep several in each jar, and then I pass on extras to those in need.
Freecycle and Craigs lists are good arena's for this.
You can start giving Kombucha classes as well. Pass on the health benefits to others.

Hm, well not really. But I do think it's an interesting mystery. I think of it as a living link to that mysterious past, and it's kinda neat how there has been such a long line of people who kept it alive and passed it on.

maybe you have angered your scoby if it is behaving in a sinister manner. j/k :nana:

i'm afraid i'm going to anger it if i throw it's babies on the compost pile
:

and i only have so many friends (86 according to facebook
) at that rate i'm going to incur it's wrath in about a month

okay, of course i'm joking, i'll probably just keep a few in every jar and then compost 'em i guess.
