I think the school should be required to serve healthy meals, but if the kids and their parents don't care if they eat junk from vending machines then that is their choice. I think it is silly to make legislation to try and control peoples food choices.

I think it is inappropriate for candy machines to be in a school. The impact of the sugar on the brain, attention span, etc. are to huge to be ignored. An adolescent body craves that kind of fuel because it's fast. Very few have the nutritional education to realize that grabbing for the candy bar will have them zoning out in an hour versus grabbing the cheese, fruit or some other healthier choice. Not to mention, many of us as adults, knowing this information, still struggle with food choices and when we are trying to do better we make sure the junk is out of the house to make it easier. That's not an option for school kids...it's there, it's easy and convenient. What's worse is the corporations then steal into the school influencing the school lunches, etc. I find it sick to see advertisements for fast food corporations at the school athletic events. What message is that sending?

Just my opinion...

the power of the almighty dollar.

Beccaboomom - IMO, if the parents/children think that it is a good idea - then they can pack a lunch o' crap.

Schools are for learning and teaching children good choices....neither of that is accomplished by allowing Coke and DingDongs to advertise in the schools.

I was going to make all the same points! I was so excited when I first heard about this legislation. I can't believe she vetoed it
What a hack!
