Anyone want to come up with ideas that one could use to get the pro-bfing message out by means of a culture jam?*

my idea- make stickers of babies and stick them at the breast of the barely dressed women on magazine covers. A quick jog through the neighborhood on recycling day could yield any number of mags or advertisements with bikini girls. Stick the stickers on and leave the altered page wherever you see fit.

Other ideas?

*Please do not destroy or mar another person's property. It's not nice. If you want to do this, do it on your own dime. Thx.

Thanks for this! I had never heard of "culture jamming" and read the link with great interest.

Your idea is great!

I think this might be an example...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9Ggb2rQsYk

i like this "advertisement":
http://www.promom.org/bf_info/true_breast.html

it's not real adbusting, but the message is funny: the female breast is just a product, and you can promote it in exactly the same way the formula producers promote the "benefits" of their products. nursing is a deal, and in a business sense it's a win-win-situation.

Please do not advocate illegal acts, as it violates the User Agreement:

Additionally, keep the purpose of the Lactivism forum in mind:

The Lactivism forum is not intended to be a place where MDCers to bash mothers who are formula feeding. It is understandable that lactivists become frustrated over the mainstream formula feeding culture. Name calling, criticizing individuals, or attacking women who choose to formula feed as a group are not.

Something I have considered doing is collecting copies of Breastfeeding and Natural birth magazines and leaving them lobbies and taking the other "bad" mags that people leave.

The Health department and DHS here in my county both have take and leave mag rakes. So I have thought about "jamming" them with good material.

I have always wanted to leave the mothering circ booklet in the waiting rooms at hospital maternity wards and ob.gyn offices in hope that some one will read it before making a decision. Also the vaccination booklet in ped's offices. Or as a thank you to your OB for catching your baby, try giving them a gift subscription to Mothering for a year. It would be nice to see that in the waiting rooms at the dr offices.

That's where I saw my first copy of mothering, well fp office. Not sure if it was a doctor's copy or left by a helpful parent.

Thinking more on my first post- this idea could work for the myspace issue too. Take two identical images and Photoshop a baby in one (back of the head nursing pose) and see which gets pulled.

I just want to reiterate- the idea behind culture jamming is to get the viewer to question their commonly held beliefs by twisting the common message sent by mass media. There is no need to break any laws or violate the UA. (although some people do break laws to culture jam I find it lessens their message rather than promotes it) An example from another thread would be the playboy bunny logo superimposed with "Silly Rabbit- Tits are for kids"

I think there are some great ideas on this thread as well. Any more?

I leave breastfeeding flyers and LLL meeting notices in pregnancy and new baby books from the library. They make great bookmarkers!
