DS is 9.5 months old. He has been nursed exclusively upon request since birth. He weighs about 27 pounds. I started giving him some solid food last month because he was grabbing it out of my hand. He is very interested in it, but doesn't eat that much. I offer him a little of what I eat for lunch and then in the early evening when DD eats dinner, he gets some plain yogurt, maybe some avocado or sweet potato, a mashed banana or some apples. As of the last 2 weeks he has cut down nursing in frequency and time at the breast. He is nursing 3 or 4 times during the 11 hours he is awake during the day and then just twice at night. So in 24 hours, just nursing 5 or 6 times. I offer him the breast like 20 times a day, but he just wants to sit up and play. He is not yet crawling, but trying. He has 2 teeth on the bottom and doesn't seem like he is teething. I enjoy nursing him so much, I hope he is not weaning. Can someone explain this sudden drop in nursing sessions? Oh and also, he used to hang out alot and comfort suck, now he eats so efficiently and snaps off, ready to move on.

It's the distractable age, most babies go through it. Encourage him to nurse if he seems to forget, nurse before solids and maybe take a look at http://www.kellymom.com/index.html for ideas to keep him nursing enough. My ds went through that and then around 11 months gradually returned to a major obsession with mama's milk, so keep supporting the nursing relationship, it's just a very common phase!
