The one I have is ages old and cracked...

I don't like using the plastic ones - I have a real nice wooden one but I only use it for cutting bread on...

Also do you have seperate boards for meat and veggies? Right now I do cut meat on plastic boards because I'm afraid of not getting the wooden board clean enough.

When I replace my cutting boards I'm thinking I'll get bamboo, I love how quickly it grows so easily sustainable
No help on the meat vs veggies, since we're vegetarian but I'd be leary of meat on a wood cutting board too.

We have a shmancy-pants giant Boos block cutting board that DH uses for everything except raw meat. The raw meat is cut on plastic.

That cutting board is DH's baby, so I am scared of using it and use plastic for everything. We do have seperate ones for meat. I need him to give me a lesson on proper care & treatment of cutting boards so I can use the Boos block, too, and then we can use plastic for raw meet only.

ooh maybe I'll try the bamboo... I guess I will stick to plastic for the raw meat - I like how I can put it in the dishwasher.

After the media said we should switch from wood to plastic, studies were conducted that showed that wood has natural antibacterial properties so that after a specified period of time after washing, more bacteria returned to the plastic than the wood. Wood is actually cleaner in the long run. I don't know about bamboo, but that's what I have now.
