D&C, still bleeding

5389 Views 30 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  ThrowaBouy
Hi, ladies. I had a D&C on the 17th of March, and it'll be 4 weeks tomorrow and I'm still bleeding/spotting on and off. My ob told me it's normal to bleed even for 4~6 weeks... I'm due to see my ob when it's 6 weeks from the D&C. It's very very frustrating and I begin to think if it's EVER going to stop. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I would love to hear from you.

I bled for 4 weeks after a D&C once. It is normal, but that doesn't make it any easier.

I had my d & c on 3/17 as well. While my bleeding has mostly stoppe., I do have occassional spoting from old to BRB. Like you doc, my OB said it can take up to 3-6 weeks for it to end. Then I should expect a period.
Hugs.
I had a D&C last Friday. I havent bled much at all. I spotted a little, but my ob said I would only bleed for about a week. I was only 11 week though so maybe it depends where you are in pregnancy?
Thank you egoldber and Debstmomy. kimnicole428 you're so lucky... (sorry i only meant with the bleeding situation).

I also had a missed mc and the d&c at 11 weeks, however apparently my baby's heartbeat stopped at around the end of the 8th week. We actually saw heartbeat at the 1st ultrasound at the end of 7th week but the baby's size was only 4mm (6 weeks). At the D&C, my ob also said bleeding should last for 10~14 days. So when it didn't stop after 2 weeks, I rang her and she then told me some women bleed for 4~6 weeks and it's still considered normal.

I thought it was stopping earlier this week as it reduced to almost nothing, but then on Wednesday it became light bleeding, kinda like my period. Is it possible that I could've bled right into the period? This is my first pregnancy and I wish the bleeding would just go away so I can have some closure....

When are you ladies planning to ttc again?

My D&C was 2 weeks ago tomorrow and I'm still bleeding very sporadically. I haven't worn a pad for the last 2 days but I felt a gush tonight and when I got to the bathroom I passed 4-6 parts of what I'm pretty sure was retained placenta, followed by dark red blood. So I guess the bleeding is not over.

Isn't D&C SUPPOSED to prevent prolonged mc?!
Why do we bleed after D&C?

I don't know if you're exactly looking for an answer or not...

It's our body's way of cleaning everything out.
In my case, my 3rd pregnancy was a missed m/c. Baby was gone at 11-12 weeks but we didn't know until 14w4d. My body didn't give me any kind of signal that there was anything wrong. In any case, your uterus needs to build up a sustainable lining again and thus, needs to get all the old stuff out.

I was actually, in a way, looking for answer, thanks HoosierDiaperinMama.

Is there anything women bleed for a long time after d&c have in common? My periods were almost always accompanied by bad cramps for the 1st and 2nd days, could this be one of the reasons that the bleeding after d&c is longer than 2 weeks?!

I wish I could know the reason so I can do something about it... right now it just feels so hopeless

ok...I dont *know* the answer to anythign, but here are things i ahve heard..take all with a huge grain of salt

Option one: Two of my friends said it you dont bleed it means the dr got everything???

Option two: My understanding of a D&C is they clean everything out. Your body has to rebuild the lining, depends were your hormones are and how your body responds hormonly after and during this process as to how much and how long you bleed.

Like I said take with a grain of salt I am not any kind of expert

I think it just depends. I have had 3 miscarriages. With the first one I had a D&C and only bled for about a week. The second time I bled for almost 4 weeks. The third time it was a chemical pregnancy and I miscarried naturally but bled for almost 6 weeks.
:

My periods are always very regular and no extraordinary cramping or anything. But in the last 2 cases I was exercising regularly, and I had to stop exercising completely for at least a week before the bleeding stopped completely. So maybe try not to overdo things and cut back on physical activity for a little bit to see if that helps.

I was going to say something about this too. My best friend had a m/c 2 yrs. ago and her dr. requested that she not do any strenuous activity until her bleeding stopped. She had just joined a gym (she didn't know she was pg) so she put exercising on hold. She m/c on her own and the bleeding took 4 weeks to finally stop.

I really think it depends on your body. 2 weeks ago today I had a D&C and I thought the bleeding had stopped earlier this week as I mentioned in a pp, but it's still hanging around. And I know it's not uncommon for m/c bleeding to segue into regular AF. I'm sure it's different for every person.

Thanks kimnicole428.... Not knowing if Option 1 is what's going on with me until end of next week when I go to see my ob... Option 2 seems to make sense. So if I'm bleeding for a long time, does it mean that the lining is hard to build? and my hormone levels are still high?

I'm now officially in my 5th week of bleeding and it's like a light period....

I only have BRB occassionally, like once a week & then it is scant. Mostly it is brown gunk, I know TMI!!! Oh, & my uterus still is store if I move the wrong way or laugh to hard, or sneeze to hard. I know I am still healing. No period yet.
Debstmomy... What's BRB and TMI? Sorry I'm very new at this...
BRB - Bright Red Blood
TMI - To Much Information.

How are you feeling????
Debstmomy, hope we all heal soon!

I'm physically feeling fine, uterus not sore or anything, just the fact that I've been wearing pads for over 4 weeks.... and not being able to have sex for over a month with my hb... and not knowing WHEN i can start calculating ovulation days again... it's a bit of a nightmare.
Oh, and I rang my ob yesterday and she said it's still "normal" and insisted it'll be all right for me to see her as scheduled next Friday. So I saw my gp today and he said I might be having my period but there's no way to be sure. My gp is very nice and he eased my mind a little.

Cramping started and kinda like a heavy period after I got home (sorry for TMI) and a little blood clots (sorry again). I wish I could start thinking about something else other than bleeding!!

Once again, thanks so much for listening....

I'd just like to say Thank You to everyone for hearing me out and sharing their experiences with me through this difficult time, I'm happy to say that my bleeding has finally STOPPED!!! I bled right into the first af after my miscarriage, and the whole thing lasted 5 weeks exactly since my D&C. WHAT A RELIEF TO BE FINALLY FREE OF PADS!!! (sorry for tmi)

Best of luck to us all, I can't wait until when we can start trying and hope to have a healthy baby very soon!!!
