Hey there, I just took my son in for his WBV and the doc says that he has Dacrocystitis - something about his tear ducts narrowing?? And I was just wondering if anyone else's child has had this and... is it a big deal? I'm not too worried.. but was just wondering. We also just got antibiotics to put in his eyes... Anyhow, lots of thanks in advance!!

My ds had 2 blocked tear ducts at birth and now (at almost 7 mos) one has cleared and one has not. I believe that dacocysitis is an infection that results from a blocked tear duct. The infection can be cleared with antibiotic ointment or drops, but that will not unblock the tear duct. That ducts usually clear themselves by the time the child turns 1 year. Some docs rec massaging the area to help clear the duct.

Hope this helps!

I wonder if anyone out there has had success with massaging the area, or if there are any suggestions for other things that might help! I really want ds's other eye to clear up!
